INEC’s statement on the just concluded Governorship and State House of Assembly elections

Read below:
The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections across the country on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Governorship elections were held in 29 States of the Federation, while State Assembly elections were held in 36 states. No election took place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A general assessment shows that the elections went very well across the country. According to preliminary reports, 88.9 % of polling units opened for accreditation between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. across the country. Only 5.2 % were yet to open as of 1 pm. Also, 73 % of the polling units had commenced voting by 2.30 p.m.
The process of accreditation with Smart Card Readers was also successful in a majority of the polling units. Initial challenges were recorded in Edo and Abia states, but the technical teams deployed to support the states were able to resolve the issues in a timely manner.
Overall, many parts of the country remained relatively peaceful during the elections. Some states, however, recorded a significant number of violent incidents, the most affected being Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ebonyi and Ondo States. INEC’s records show that there were 66 reports of violent incidents targeted at polling units, the Commission’s officials, voters and election materials. These were in Rivers State (16 incidents), Ondo (8), Cross River and Ebonyi (6 each), Akwa Ibom (5) Bayelsa (4), Lagos and Kaduna (3 each), Jigawa, Enugu, Ekiti and Osun (2 each), Katsina, Plateau, Kogi, Abia, Imo, Kano and Ogun (1 each).  The Commission is investigating these incidents and will do everything within in its powers to bring culprits to justice.
INEC commends Nigerians for once again demonstrating their resolve and commitment to participate in the electoral process and by doing so, contributing to deepening democracy in our country.
The Commission calls on every citizen to maintain the peace as the results of the Governorship and State Assembly elections are being processed, and to accept the official outcomes. It would like to emphasize that winners can only emerge after collation of the official results and on the basis of the requirements prescribed by the legal framework. Any aggrieved persons or groups are encouraged to seek redress at the Tribunals.
INEC would also like to remind all stakeholders that the process is not yet completed and urges restraint in their comments, as we strive to bring this process to an orderly, peaceful and credible conclusion.

Rap Star, Nelly Arrested For Possession of Hard Drugs

Grammy Award-winning rapper Nelly has been arrested on drugs charges after police stopped the bus in which he was travelling in Tennessee.
Nelly, real name Cornell Haynes, was pulled over on Saturday morning because the bus was allegedly not displaying legally-required stickers.
The bus was then searched after a state trooper smelled marijuana, authorities in Tennessee said.
Officers are alleged to have found drugs and handguns on board.
The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security said Nelly was taken to Putnam County Jail after the bus, which had six people on board, was stopped on Interstate 40.
The 40-year-old rapper was charged with felony possession of drugs, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and was later released on bail.
One other man travelling on the coach was arrested and charged, authorities said.
A statement said two state troopers searched the bus and found "five coloured crystal-type rocks that tested positive for methamphetamine, as well as a small amount of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia" as well as the guns.
According to CNN, Nelly's lawyer Scott Rosenblum said "there had been 15-20 people that had access to the bus prior to the stop".
He said he was "extremely confident that when the facts come out, Nelly will not be associated with the contraband that was allegedly discovered."
The rapper, whose hits include Hot in Herre, Dilemma and Ride Wit Me, is currently starring in his own reality TV show, Nellyville.
It centres around the star's home and family life with his two children and his sister's two children, who he adopted after his sibling died from leukaemia.

No room for PDP defectors in my govt —Buhari

President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, has hinted that his government would have no place for defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

General Buhari, who said members of his All Progressives Congress (APC) had nothing to fear over the mass defection of PDP members to the party, gave the hint in an interview in his Daura residence on Saturday.
“I have no fears of PDP defectors,” he said, adding that the PDP chieftains would have very little influence in the APC government.
“The people who are defecting will only have influence in their constituencies. Since their constituencies are now controlled by the APC, their influence is, therefore, limited,” he said.
He, however, added that he was hopeful the defectors would be realistic about their position in their new party.
“I hope the people that are defecting will accept the fact that they are joining the people who succeeded. So, I don’t think they will just come and say they want to be ministers next month, simply because they were ministers before,” he said.

Forget Google; Rapper Drake Now Has A Search Engine

Canadian rapper, Aubrey Graham popularly known as Drake has just gotten his own search engine and it is truly unique and whimsical.

The search engine is called “Let Me Drake That For You.” and it has a similar interface to Google’. The distinction however is that the search engine is refreshingly narcissistic as it only produces results related to the rapper, no matter what you search for!

With options such as “Drake Search” and “I’m feeling Drizzy”, the search engine directly gives users, access into the life and music of the rapper, without them having to specify.
