Lara Oshiomole: Edo's First Lady Honored By Nigeria’s Girls Guide Association (Photos)

Lara Oshiomhole, the wife of the Edo state governor, has announced that the state government will always give priority to girls’ education.

PM News reports that Mrs Oshiomhole made the statement on Tuesday, August 18, in Benin at the 2015 edition of the Nigerian Girls Guide Association National Camp Meeting.

“Edo state is a strong believer in the training of the youth, especially the girl child and we believe strongly that whenever you educate a girl, you educate the family and you have educated the nation.

“I want to thank you for what you are doing here and I urge you to keep it up. I am very happy to be here in your midst today. I have heard a lot about the Girls Guide Association and I came here today to see what you have been doing and I am pleased with what I have seen here today,” the First Lady said.

 Mrs Oshiomhole was later invested as the patron of Nigerian Girls Guide Association, Edo state chapter.

Gabon’s President gives entire inheritance to charity

Gabon’s President Ali Bongo has pledged to give his share of the inheritance from his father to charity and said his family was also handing over properties including a villa in the capital and two homes in Paris to the state.

Reuters reports that Bongo has led the central African oil producer since winning a 2009 election that followed the death of his father, longtime President Omar Bongo.

Ali Bongo made the announcement in a speech broadcast on state-owned television late on Monday to mark the 55th anniversary of independence from France. He said the decision was in honour of his father.

“All the revenues from my share of the inheritance will go to a foundation for youth and education because everyone knows – and I say it again – that the youth were sacred in the eyes of President Omar Bongo Ondimba,” he said.

The Bongo family’s wealth is believed to include millions of dollars held in foreign bank accounts, real estate and stakes in Gabon’s main industries.

 Gabon’s oil wealth has put its per capita gross domestic product among the highest in Africa and the World Bank ranks it as an upper middle-income country. However, wealth is unevenly distributed and many Gabonese live in poverty.

Foremost comedian, Baba Sala hospitalized

CELEBRATED comedian, Pa Moses Adejumo Olaiya, popularly known as Baba Sala was on Monday night rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) over his deteriorating health.
Olaiya, who celebrated his 80th birthday three months ago has been ill for the past few weeks,but his health degenerated two days ago. He was taken from his residence in Ilesha, Osun State to UCH for medical attention.

When contacted, the Head of Public Relations Unit of UCH, Mr. Deji Bobade confirmed that the prolific writer and actor is still alive and his condition has stabilised.

“Yes, he was rushed to this hospital on Monday night but he has stabilised. I just left his ward about 10 minutes ago. Baba is healthy and there is nothing wrong with him for now. He is still alive. But the hospital is yet to discharge him,” Bobade said.

He declined to speak on the nature of his ill health but simply said it is age related.

This time they were spotted having dinner at West Hollywood hotspot The Nice Guy. 

"They apparently sat at a table just the two of them," a source told TMZ. "They looked very engaged and like they were an item."

Ora has previously dated Rob Kardashian, Calvin Harris and recently broke up with Ricky Hilfiger after one year of dating. Khalifa was previously married to Amber Rose and have one child together.

How 38 Year Old Consecrated Virgin Married Jesus In Indiana (See Photos)

On Saturday, an Indiana woman, Jessica Hayes, 38,  married Jesus, the son of God in downtown Fort Wayne and become a consecrated virgin.

Consecrated virgins are similar to nuns in that they live chaste lives. But they do not live in convents and they are not obliged to take on any particular work for the Catholic Church. 

Jessica Hayes, 38,  who is a theology teacher at Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne, said she decided to become an consecrated virgin after years of prayer and soul-searching. And for the

occassion, wore a wedding dress.

She says she will continue to live her normal life at home - only now she will not be able to get married to anyone else or to have sex for the rest of her life. 

'My students asked if they should call me Mrs. Hayes when I come back to school next week, and no, I’m still Ms. But I am married to Jesus.'  

As a consecrated virgin, Hayes may not have 'knowing and deliberately' engaged in sexual relations in the past. 

'I think that in some sense, we’re all called to be married. It’s just a matter of discerning how. So, my marriage is to Christ and someone else’s marriage is to their spouse,' she told WANE.

Saturday's ceremony was conducted by Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He said:

'It seems most appropriate that Jessica gives herself totally to Jesus, is consecrated to a life of virginity.' 

                    

Hundreds of people attended the service - most of whom were strangers to the bride. She said most turned up because they were 'interested' - and she was pleased with the turnout.

The first openly transgender official appointed to serve in the White House is making history as she begins her new job today, the Obama administration announced.

Raffi Freedman-Gurspan, 28, is breaking barriers as the new outreach and recruitment director for presidential personnel in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, according to the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE). Freedman-Gurpsan formerly served as a policy advisor for NCTE's Racial and Economic Justice Initiative.

While a handful of transgender people have been appointed to presidential commissions and boards previously, Freedman-Gurspan is the first openly trans appointee to work inside 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

The historic appointment is being lauded by LGBTQ+ advocates, who say they're happy that the presidential administration is beginning to reflect the actual diversity of America.

"I am elated that Raffi Freedman-Gurspan will become the first openly transgender staff member at the White House," NCTE executive director Mara Keisling said in a statement. "That the first transgender appointee is a transgender woman of color is itself significant. And that the first White House transgender appointee is of a friend is inspiring to me and to countless others who have been touched by Raffi’s advocacy."

Police Arrest Aregbesola’s Aide Over Girlfriend’s Death(Photos)

A Special Adviser to Osun State Governor, Mr Bode Olugbore, has been arrested by the police over the death of his girlfriend, Miss Kemi Arobieke. A Punch correspondent gathered that Kemi, a graduate of the Lagos State University, visited Bode in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Thursday, August 6, all the way from Lagos and promised to return on Saturday. 

The deceased’s elder brother, Ayo, who confirmed the death of his sister to our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday, said Kemi had known Olugbore for about four years, but the family did not know about their relationship. The brother of the deceased said he, Kemi and Bode were members of the same church in Lagos adding that her sister said the suspect had been separated from his wife. He said, “My sister travelled to Osogbo and she was supposed to return to Lagos on Saturday, but we got a call from the police that she was involved in an accident and it was very serious.

 “We got to Osogbo but the police prevented us from seeing her only to be told that she was electrocuted. She was said to have been electrocuted by a Binatone fan, but it is unbelievable. “The current in a fan is not enough to kill, except one has direct contact with a live wire. The mark on her body suggests something contrary.” He said he saw Bode at the State Criminal Investigation Department on two occasions he went to the place. The deceased’s brother said the police had done the autopsy, but the family was still waiting for the police to give them the result. 

He said, ” We were told that Bode’s family will have to be present before they would give us the result.” The governor’s media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, when contacted declined to comment on the matter. He said, ” It’s a police matter. You can get accurate information about whatever happened from the police.” Also, efforts to speak to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Folasade Odoro, proved abortive on the matter as calls put across to her telephone were picked but she refused to talk.

 After many calls to her other telephone, a male voice answered the call and told our correspondent that the PRO was not in the office but left her phone for charging. He promised that the PRO would call back when she returned, but she did not. Also, a text message sent to inquire about the case was not replied to as of the time of filing this report. 

Sunday Oliseh reveals why he ‘hates’ Jay Jay Okocha

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh, has spoken about his relationship with former team-mate, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha.

There have been a lot of speculations surrounding their friendship and it has been suggested that both men don’t see eye to eye. But while responding to questions by a reporter recently, Oliseh replied sarcastically: “Yes, I hate Jay-Jay,” before quickly adding “I hate Okocha because anytime we play tennis, he beats me. We played at the weekend at Sheraton Hotel and he defeated me.”

“We’re the best of friends and we played Tennis at the weekend.”

Rumours of rivalry between the two ex-footballers, dates as far back as 2002, when Okocha replaced Oliseh as national team captain to the World Cup in Korea and Japan.

Oliseh also spoke about how he planned to eliminate individuality in the Eagles team and promote team play.

“If you remember our victories in 1994 and 1996, it was based on individual talents. But we do not have such individual talents again. What we need to do is to play collectively. That is what obtains in Germany and Spain. It’s a lot of hard work. We’re here to do our best.” he added.

Wife Catches Pastor Hubby 'Grinding' Church Member

Mrs Doris Oseni has told a Customary Court in Ondo town that she caught her husband of 12 years, Prophet Femi Oseni on the floor of the church office, having sex with another woman.

The 42-year-old woman who is also an Evangelist has consequently asked the court to dissolve the marriage on the grounds of adultery, desertion and lack of love on the part of the husband.

She told the court that her husband’s behaviour towards her changed after seven years of their marriage with no child, adding that since then, the defendant had been sleeping around with different women, most of whom were their church members.

She added that after several days of abandoning her, she traced her husband to his church in a village not far from Ondo town. On getting there, she met her husband on the floor of the church office with one of the women in the church having sexual relationship .

She said she reported her husband’s strange behaviour to his mother but could not be stopped from his adulterous acts, saying she was fed up with the relationship. She prayed the court to separate them.

Doris also accused her husband of having a child out of wedlock, saying the child is a product of his extra marital affairs.

However, 45-year-old Oseni pleaded with the court not to dissolve the marriage, saying he still loves the woman, whom he described as a virtuous woman that had been taking care of him since he married her.

In his ruling, the President of the Court, Joshua Adunbi said the words and body language of the wife had shown that she was tired of the union, therefore ordered for the dissolution of the marriage .

On that note, Adunbi added that both parties were free to remarry any person of their choice and ordered the petitioner to pay the sum of N2,500 to the respondent as a refund of dowry.

He however noted that anyone of them who is not satisfied with the decision of the court could appeal the ruling within 30 days.

Nigerian Man Apprehended On Expressway With N48m In Cash (Photo)

25-year-old John Okafor was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for being in possession of N48m cash. It was learnt that the suspect was apprehended with the money on the Abaji-Abuja Expressway on Monday by the anti-narcotic officials who were on a routine patrol,Punch reports.

He was said to be one of the the passengers of a commercial bus coming from Onitsha, Anambra State, when he was arrested.
Okafor insisted that the money belonged to an unnamed bureau de change firm in Onitsha, that he was an employee of the firm. He said he was heading for the foreign exchange market in the Federal Capital Territory to convert the sum to dollars when he was arrested.
He said:

“I work for a bureau de change in Onitsha. I was asked to purchase dollars at the foreign exchange market in Abuja with the money. When we got to Abaji, our vehicle was searched and the money was found. That is all I know.

”It was gathered that a drug dealer, Chukuka Ugbai, was arrested with 79 bags of weed said to have tested positive for cannabis in Bako village in the Kwali Area Council, Abuja during the same patrol.
The drug which weighed 817 kilogrammes was found in his warehouse. While Ugbai owned up to illicit dealing in drug, Ugbai, but said he was amazed that the operatives were able to track him to his residence.
He said:

“I was not lucky enough because I don’t know how they detected my cannabis warehouse. I sell cannabis to take care of my family and pay my children’s school fees. The officers found 79 bags of cannabis in my store.”

The FCT commander of the NDLEA, Mrs. Chinyere Obijuru, confirmed the two arrests in a statement. She said Okafor would be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation, while Ugbai would be charged to court.

She said:

“Okafor was on board a commercial bus from Onitsha in Anambra State when N48,450,000 was found in a brown carton concealed in a sack. He also had on him 86,500 CFA. He claimed that the money belongs to a bureau de change at Onitsha. He is suspected to be engaging in money laundering and will be transferred to the EFCC for further investigation. “Ugbai was arrested at Bako village in the Kwali Area Council following the discovery of his cannabis warehouse. He will soon be charged to court for unlawful possession of cannabis.”

The NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said the agency would continue to clamp down on drug traffickers and urged the public to comply with the provisions of the anti-money laundering act.
