MTN Allegedly Recalls Sacked Visafone Staff

MTN Nigeria said it has recalled over 90 per cent of sacked employees of Visafone following its acquisition of the leading Coded Division Multiple
Access (CDMA) network.

According to reports all disengaged staff, excluding drivers and office assistants, have now been recalled.According to one of the recalled staff almost all the sacked staff have been reinstated and are now awaiting their new salary renumeration packages and work guidelines.

“When we were asked to leave, we were given only three months salaries in lieu of notice, which was not too good because some of us have put in five to 10 years of service. Visafone Communications came into Nigeria at a time when the defunct Multi-Links and Starcoms were dominating the CDMA sector. It broke their monopoly and instantly became the fourth largest network in the country.”
On the number of staff affected, our source said about 500 and not 2,000 as reported were involved because of the consecutive lay-off in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

He further stated that MTN did not want to take on liabilities initially until it discovered that its technical crew could not understand the CDMA network, which it acquired because of its spectrum.

Okocha drops a bombshell, says no Nigerian player deserves CAF award

A former captain of the Super Eagles, Austin Okocha, has expressed disappointment over the failure of Nigerian players to contend for the Glo/CAF African Player of the Year award, saying they were not good enough to be considered for the prestigious award.
Speaking to journalists at the event, which was held at the International Conference Center, Abuja on Thursday night, Okocha said it was unfortunate that Nigerian football has “gone down drastically”.
The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder said Nigeria should accept that they are no longer ranked among the giants of African football and begin the process of returning to their deserved position.
He said, “I don’t think any of our players at this moment deserve to be there because we have been struggling. We must try to work hard to make sure that we will have one person in contention next time. Honestly speaking, we are going through a rough period, but there is nothing to be ashamed of.
“We all need to battle and make sure we return to where we really belong. We have signs that suggest that we may qualify for Gabon, but we must work had to see it work out by acknowledging that first of all we are not doing very well, so we have to humble ourselves by starting afresh.
“Once we accept our fate at the moment, I think there will be a fresh beginning for us. Deservedly, we are at our current ratings because our results have not been very encouraging. We just need to accept it and then fight our way back.
“But we must first admit that our current form is not that good, so that we can begin to put certain measures in place to return us to where we should be by first seeking to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. I believe that Sunday Oliseh will give us the ticket for Gabon.”

Lamar Odom Released From Hospital, Transferred To Rehab Facility

Lamar Odom has been discharged from the hospital nearly three months after his near-fatal overdose.

Odom was quietly released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday. With the assistance of estranged wife Khloe Kardashian, the former NBA star was transferred to a private rehabilitation facility. He will live in the center for the foreseeable future to continue long-term care.

Odom was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel in October. After being rushed to the hospital, he suffered several strokes. Odom, who was initially unresponsive and in a coma on life support, was later moved from a Las Vegas hospital to the medical facility in Los Angeles.

He has spent the last few months working to regain his mobility, as his speaking skills and ability to walk have been greatly impacted. It still remains to be seen how long-lasting any brain damage will be.

Kardashian called off her divorce from Odom in the wake of the health crisis, and has publicly committed to being involved in his recovery.
