Police arrest church members for noise pollution during service

The police in Lagos have arrested six persons for allegedly disturbing the peace of residents of Olaomibiyi Street, Ogba, during a church service.
The members – Ngozichukwu Onyebuchi (44), Clement Eromosele (26), Chukwudi Akwegbu (26), Chibuzor Chukwu (18), Godspower Enudi (21) and Okorie Livonus (36) – were arraigned in a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba.
They were accused of converting a residential apartment to a church.
It was learnt that the landlord and residents of the building where the defendants gathered to worship had complained that the congregation caused noise pollution whenever they prayed.
They were said to have cautioned the worshippers to lower their voices, but the members reportedly declined.
It was gathered that the church was reported to the police at the Pen Cinema division, who arrested the six members on January 14 during Sunday service, while the others were said to be at large.
They were brought before a Chief Magistrate, Mrs. T. Akanni, on two counts of engaging in a conduct capable of causing a breach of the peace.
The offence, according to a police prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, is punishable under sections 410 and 166 (1) (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The presiding magistrate, Akanni, admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties each in like sum. The magistrate added that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payments and their residential addresses to the court for the perfection of the defendants’ bail.
The case was adjourned till February 15, 2016, for mention.

Zika Virus Confirmed In UK! 4 Pregnant Women Infected

Following the declaration by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that the disease is a global emergency, there are now four confirmed cases of the Zika virus – mosquito-borne virus associated with brain damaged babies in Latin America – in the United Kingdom in the last six weeks.
Addressing a parliamentary committee, Public Health England’s Dr Dilys Morgan, who warned that the number is likely to rise, disclosed that all four cases were “travel associated” and not transmitted in Britain.
Morgan, who is the head of the department of gastrointestinal, emerging and zoonotic infections at PHE, disclosed that the rise would be partly a result of the publicity about the virus spreading across Latin America, which has been linked to cases of brain deformity in babies.

She told the Commons Science and Technology Committee: “We have had seven cases, six associated with the current outbreak in South America, in the past three years.
“We have four of those in 2016 so we are seeing cases coming back. We have raised awareness so people are more aware of the infections.
“We are likely to see more cases.”
When asked what advice are given to patients who have travelled to affected countries, she said:
“We are dealing with these cases all the time, it very much depends on where the woman has been, what the woman has done, has she gone to an area of high transmission where there have been lots of cases reported? I think there is a gradation of the risk which we can give.
“I don’t feel we should be worrying these women too much when not every foetus will be affected, we don’t know what the proportion is but we know it is probably low looking at the numbers so I think there are various reassurances we can give, but what we shouldn’t do is give reassurances about the evidence.
She added: “What we are doing is explaining what we do know and how best people can be protected, reassuring them that there is no risk to the UK population.
“Your risk of acquiring Zika depends on where you are travelling – you are likely to get a very mild illness if you notice anything at all but if you are pregnant then you may be at risk of an abnormal foetus which is obviously devastating.
“We have been working with the medical profession so that when women do go and want to discuss it with their healthcare providers then they are in a better position of how to advise them.”
The Zika virus is linked with the birth defect microcephaly, which sees children born with abnormally small brains, along with a neurological syndrome which can cause paralysis.
The disease has spread across South and Central America with a handful of cases being reported in the UK, US and Germany.
The Mirror gathered that China had also confirmed its first case of the Zika virus.

Kendall Jenner Sues Skincare Company for Using Her Face in Ads

Kendall Jenner is suing a skincare company, Cutera for using her photo in advertisements for a laser treatment provided by the company. These advertisements began popping up in public spaces in New York this month ahead of Fashion Week, according to the lawsuit obtained by PEOPLE.

In the lawsuit, Jenner's lawyer counts off her numerous achievements, including her various magazine covers, her clothing line, as well as her reality TV and social media presence, before stating that the 20-year-old's legal team wanted at least $10 million for use of her image.

"Cutera's use of Kendall Jenner's name and likeness is not, and never has been, authorized," the lawsuit reads. "Cutera has never sought Ms. Jenner's permission to use her as a 'face' for its products and services, and Ms. Jenner has never given such permission.

Jenner is asking the company to turn over any profits from her image, which should "in no event be less than $10 million."

The model is also asking for a temporary restraining order against Cutera, along with the prohibition of "any use of Kendall Jenner's name, likeness, identity or person.
