Vogue names Wizkid Nigeria's Best-Dressed Pop Star

It’s a season of international media exposure for Nigerian pop stars.
24 hours ago, Davido covered the latest edition of US Magazine ‘The Fader’. Now, Wizkid has just been described as Nigeria’s best dressed pop star by renowned international fashion magazine, Vogue.
In an interview with the magazine, Wizkid describes his fashion style in Lagos saying, ‘Lagos style is fresh and different. Even with the tailors, they get very innovative with their stuff, with the cuts. When my parents used to make the traditional wears, it was a little bit baggy. But now the tailors are able to infuse the European style, making it slim-fit. Lagos style is different, man. Innovative’.

According to Vogue;
"Wizkid is pretty much the biggest thing in Nigerian pop, which itself seems to advance on the global music stage almost as quickly as the country’s economy, one of the fastest growing in the world. He scored a massive smash last year with “Ojuelegba,” an insatiable rags-to-riches hit with a shoulder-shrugging Afrobeat, which inspired Drake to jump on a remix...."

According to reports, Toyin’s phones was hijacked from her shortly after she made some posts about @twyse_116 (the young comic act, who wanted to commit suicide on Thursday in London) by Seun Egbegbe because Toyin allegedly professed love to him.

According to Seun, some of his family members and some friends called him up to say his “wife” was posting photos of another man, crying and asking him not to commit suicide online and he said he termed that as adultery and had to rush there to make sure she stops posting.

Daddy Freeze Blasts Onyeka Onwenu: ‘Buhari didn’t sack you because you are Igbo!’

Popular OAP, Daddy Freeze, has weighed in on Onyeka Onwenu’s recent statement following her disengagement as DG of the Centre for Women’s Development, where the legendary singer detailed the treatment she was given as DG.

OAP wrote on Instagram. “Madam, you were not sacked because you are Igbo,” read below
Dear Madam, you were not sacked because you are Igbo, stop creating unnecessary tension in an already volatile situation you are not helping matters. If nigeria goes to war, poor, innocent and helpless people would suffer. Syria has a population of 25 million people, far less than LAGOS state alone yet the world can't handle its refuge crisis. I shudder to imagine our own. Lose statements like "Buhari sacked me because I am Igbo" would only serve to fuel more hatred and animosity. Sit at home and face your issue without dragging an innocent nation into your personal battle. How long did you really expect to eat under 2 different regimes and what really did you have to offer? - just a thought. Sorry about the typos guys I'm really not happy about this

Angry Client Locks Psquare’s House Over Failure to Perform at Event After Getting Paid

While the dust is yet to settle on the family dispute in the household of Psquare, a new situation crept up today- which indicates that these are torrid times for the music group.

A large police presence was reported in their mansion- Squareville- in Omole Estate on Friday morning, and according to unconfirmed reports, it has to do with an unfulfilled performance obligation.
Reports from the grapevine suggest that Psquare was paid for a show in Benin, Edo state, and they failed to turn up to perform.
The show promoter was said to have obtained a court judgment and subsequently stormed the Squareville mansion with court bailiffs.
Upon arrival, a fracas was said to have ensued in the premises of Squareville, which possibly led to the invitation of policemen from Ogudu Police Station.
The arguments, raised voices and physical altercation was said to have led to the gathering of a large crowd around the Psaquare mansion in Omole.
One of the Psquare brothers was also said to have driven off in anger, as the crowd surged.

Aso Villa security warned to stop ‘begging’ for money from ‘important dignitaries’

The Federal government has warned security agents attached to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to desist from harassing prominent personalities visiting the premises.
According to the office of the Chief Security to the President, some security personnel are in the habit of ‘pestering, escorting’ and begging for money from important dignitaries.
A circular signed by Auwal Maikano on behalf of the Chief Security Officer to the President on Thursday, warned members of staff that strict measures would be taken against those who persist with the unprofessional conduct.
“The CSO to the President/C-in-C has observed with dismay the unprofessional conduct of some officers and men of the security department working in the Presidential Villa. These disturbing acts, such as pestering, escorting and hanging around important dignitaries such as governors and ministers coming to the Villa, must stop forthwith.”
“Any security personnel or State House Staff caught indulging in such acts will henceforth be summarily sanctioned. For the avoidance of doubt, all security personnel must remain at their various beats at all times.”
“All are also warned and reminded that: (i) begging for financial gratification and any form of soliciting for assistance from visitors to the Presidential Villa and (ii) behaving in a manner inimical to the of conduct of security personnel working in the Presidential Villa will attract severe sanctions.”
“Consequently, the CSO to the President/C-in-C has constituted a committee to discreetly monitor the activities of all security personnel working in the Presidential Villa. Any security personnel caught in such acts will have himself or herself to blame.”
“This circular is to serve as a last warning to such violators of the code of conduct and ethics of security personnel/State House Staff working in the Presidential Villa.”

Photos: Davido poses 'shirtless' for FADER magazine, Reveals he was once arrested by his father

Davido, on Thursday, made history with Fader Magazine, to become the first Nigerian to be featured on what was Fader’s first global issue.
The Nigerian artiste revealed quite a few things to the US-based magazine, in his first major interview since signing his ‘million-dollar’ deal with international corporation- Sony Music Global.
Below is excerpts from the interview
  1. Davido started making music from a neighbours’ room studio.
Davido got drawn to making music- during his University days in Oakwood university, Atlanta, when he teamed up with a neighbour called Jamo, whom he met by chance.
Davido said: “One day, I went to go check what the noise was. I went upstairs, opened the door, and the guy had a full studio in his room. I told him that I was trying to do music, too. He asked me, ‘How much do you have to invest in equipment?’ And I said, ‘$2,000.’ He was like, ‘That’s too much.”
They ended up going to Guitar Center with $500.
2. Davido’s father once got him arrested
We know a bit of the story of how he dropped out of school but we never knew he actually went ‘off the radar’ for months.
Davido simply ‘upped and left’ school and boarded a plane to London.
But Dr Deji Adeleke, his father was on the lookout for the then-truant son.
He got the police to arrest him at the Lagos international airport when he resurfaced in Nigeria, in 2011.
3. Davido’s godfather is Aliko Dangote
This gist has been circling through the grapevine for years, but then, it was always a rumour.
Never confirmed… until now.
According to the New York based magazine, Davido’s father and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, are indeed very close friends, and the latter is the artiste’s godfather.
4. Davido’s father funded a music department at Babcock University for his son to pursue his dream
What a sacrifice… an expensive one, we must say.
The magazine said that due to the massive popularity Davido gained from his second single, Dami Duro, his father was won over and in order to allow his son pursue his passion and also have a degree, he paid for a music department in Babcock University- so his son could kill two birds with one stone.
“After the song blew up, Davido, still a student, declared he no longer wanted to study business, and Chief Adeleke paid for the university to erect a music department for an inaugural class of one.”
5. Davido paid Meek Mill $200,000 for the feature on Fans Mi
From the interview, it was revealed that the singer spent $200,000 for his Fans Micollaboration with US rapper,Meek Mill.
6. Davido’s house in Atlanta was once raided by the police
Even Davido- the Omo Baba Olowo of Nigeria- has gotten the ‘He is African and how is he this rich’ treatment abroad.
His house in a highbrow area in Atlanta, which is home to celebrities such as US rapperFuture, once got raided by the police because they suspected he was into some fraudulent activities for him to be able to acquire such an expensive property.

8. Davido has spent $1 million on his next album –Baddest
If indeed, the figure quoted by Fader is factual, one wonders if Davido hopes to make the money back from the album’s proceeds.
‘Davido has already spent two years and around $1 million of his own money on the record’, the interviewer wrote.

Linda Ikeji apologises over 'Fake' Hermes bag controversy

Earlier this week, Nigerian popular blogger Linda Ikeji defended herself over claims that she bought fake Hermes Birkin bags after being accused on an Instagram post of the bags, saying the designer bags were bought for about N4.8m.
Many saw Linda Ikeji’s effort to prove the authenticity of her bags as tasteless and insensitive, causing her to trend extensively on social media over the issue.

The blogger has released a statement via her Instagram apologizing to her fans for her behaviour over the issue: ‘Let me apologize to the true Linda Ikeji fans who may have been disappointed by my rant the other day! I reacted because I thought it was really a confirmation from Hermes.
‘But I later found out that Hermes would never confirm the authenticity of a bag over Instagram DM (Direct Message). If they’re wrong, the owner of the bag could sue so usually they ask you to bring the bag into one of their stores and if they find it to be a counterfeit, they could seize it. So that DM was a fluke.
But anyway, enough about the bag. It’s so petty! Can’t believe how much we argued over it and how crazy I went over it! But the whole drama has made me realise that the amount I spent on 2 bags could have changed a few lives if I’d invested it in them. But I’m bag obsessed, what can I say?
‘May God bless you so much that the least of your worries will be a bag! Anyway, I’ve decided to double the amount of money I’ll give out this year to aspiring female entrepreneurs. Been feeling a little guilty. I want to redeem myself.
‘I’ve told my people to find a venue as soon as possible and have y’all meet me soon. Success is sweet, I tell you! When you don’t have to depend on daddy, husband, bf, Aristo for anything you want, nothing beats that!
I want so many ladies to succeed so the next generation can have more women to look up to. Plus, one of the must rules of getting blessings from God is that you must spread it. You’re allowed to buy bags every now and then, but you must help others, that’s the only way He will continue to bless you!’
