The Lagos state annual thanksgiving service held Today, January 4, 2015 at the state house arena in Ikeja. Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola and wife hosted dignitaries and Lagosians to the special thanksgiving.

Boko Haram Takes Over Military Base In Borno

Members of Boko Haram sect have reportedly seized Baga town and a military base used by a multinational force to fight the terror group in Baga town in Borno state.

According to BBC Africa,  Senator Ali Ndume who represents Borno North at the National Assembly said the sect members captured the town after attacking the residents yesterday Saturday January 3rd and that Nigerian troops fled the scene during the attack. Residents of the community who fled by boat to neighboring Chad, said many people were killed and the town set ablaze. 

The base is used by the Multinational Joint Task Force(MNJTF) which was established in 1998 and is made up of troops from Nigeria as well as Niger and Chad

President Jonathan's Younger Sister Passes Away

Younger sister of president Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs Nancy Jonathan-Olei is dead. 

Mrs. Jonathan Olei according to a statement by presidential spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati, passed away Sunday at a hospital in Yenagoa after a brief illness. She was aged, 52.

Burial arrangements will be announced later by the family.

"President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan  announces with deep sorrow, the passing away of his beloved junior sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Olei.“Mrs. Jonathan-Olei passed away earlier today at a hospital in Yenagoa after a brief illness. She was  52 years old.“Burial arrangements will be announced later by  the family.”

Congolese Techno Soukous music star, Awilo Longomba is looking young and ageless in these brand new promo pics shot by Nigerian photographer, August Udoh.

The "Moto Pamba" crooner reappeared on the Nigerian music scene last year with a new single "Bundele" when he made an appearance at the  MTN Project West Africa gala, as well as at 2Face's"Ascension" 2014 album lunch in Lagos but he definitely looks like a brand new re-packaged soukous master in these new shots where he wears outfits from Nigerian's menswear designer, McMeka put together by Nigerian celebrity stylist Ifeanyi Michael, who also directed the shoot.

Tonto Dikeh and Her Foundation Visits Ikeja Teaching Hospital [Photos]

Nollywood actress and her foundation, recently visited Ikeja Teaching Hospital bearing gifts and donations to the patients admitted at the hospital.

She's currently on charity tour in Nigeria and was also in Ota, Ogun state on New Year day. Her foundation is a non-profit which caters for abused women, unwanted pregnancy as a result of molestation/rape and motherless children.

Nigeria's naira named among worst performing African currencies in 2014

Nigeria's naira, Ghana's cedi and Zambia's kwacha have been named the worst performing African currencies in 2014.
According to Reuters, the currencies were among a small basket that are relatively liquid, as falling commodity prices take a toll on some of the continent's "lion" economies.m

The naira shed about 13.5% last year, while South Africa's rand fell over 10% while Kenyan and Ugandan shillings yielded about 4.5 and 9% respectively.

On November 25, 2014 the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) devalued the midpoint of naira by 8% from 155 to 168. The CBN blamed the naira slide on falling oil prices and speculations by currency dealers.

The cedi lost about 27% in 2014, Economic growth in 2015 is seen slowing to 3.9% in from an estimated 6.9% last year.

Zambia's kwacha ended the year on the backfoot amid tax rows with mining houses, a lower growth forecast and a looming election.
 

Terrible! Woman Kills Her Own Day-Old Baby In Ebonyi(Pictured)

25-year-old Ugochukwu Otu in Ebonyi state, has done the unthinkable by killing her one-day-old baby girl soon after she was discharged from a maternity home.

According to Sunday Sun, Otu reportedly committed the crime, so she would be free to live her life as she pleases and avoid the maternal responsibility of caring for the baby.

She committed the horrific act on December 22, 2014 in Enohia Nkalu Afikpo North LGA of Ebonyi state. She killed the baby, put the dead body in a black polythene bag and dumped it somewhere around her area. Nemesis caught up with her when neighbour's began asking her about the baby. 

She later confessed her evil deed and took the people to where she dumped the baby. Shocked youths in
the community then reported the matter to a nearby police station and she was arrested.m

Hear her reason; "I killed my one-day old baby girl intentionally because I don’t have N500 for her medical treatment. I want to be free lady. I didn’t have any intention to get pregnant. I was impregnated by one man called Monday, a native of Ozizza Afikpo North LGA. But later he refused to accept the pregnancy and I didn’t plan for it. I am not ready to marry; I want to be a free lady. I had to strangle the baby girl and put the corpse in a black poly­thene bag and dumped it along Ndibe beach road, near the bush. I don’t regret killing my baby because nobody was responsible for her upkeep.”

Madonna Apologizes For Manipulating Pictures Of Mandela and MLK

Madonna is defending photoshopped images of Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley she posted on Instagram, claiming the pics were never intended to insult anyone.

The pop star posted a series of pics on Friday, showing Mandela, King and Marley wrapped in black cord to mimic the cover of her upcoming album "Rebel Heart".

After fans and critics blasted her for using the civil rights icons to promote her album, Madonna took to her facebook to apologize saying, "I'm sorry, I'm not comparing myself to anyone. This is neither a crime or an insult or racist. I'm saying they are Rebel Hearts too."

"I didn't do it. My fans did. And I just re posted those photos. My fans aren't racist either. If they put me in the same category as these other people, thank you.  I'm very flattered and I hope one day to live up to 1/100th of what those people accomplished."

Kim Kardashian, is that you?

The reality TV star latest magazine cover is getting a lot of buzz and not because she's trying to "break the internet".
Kim is nearly unrecognizable on the cover of LOVE magazine February 2015 edition. She posted the magazine cover on her Instagram page on Saturday. In the feature, she looks dark and mysterious(very tall), eyebrows missing(actually, they're bleached). This explains why she bleached her brows last year.
