Ibinabo Fiberesima releases statement; Says she's still AGN president

Read the statement after the cut. ...
The President of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima Egbuka wishes to express her heartfelt appreciation to her members, Nollywood practitioners and teeming fans. The love and support you have shown towards her is overwhelming. The moment the news of the court ruling filtered in on the 16th of March 2015, Our office have received a barrage of phone calls, emails and text messages from so many people expressing their concern, support and love. Some made us laugh, some made us cry.
A particular individual sent a picture which is attached and said “I don’t know you but may this love in your heart never leave your industry. Love conquers hate. Love is what your industry needs and you carry it so hate will look for every reason to fight you whether genuine or not”. That, made me cry.

Sadly, that fellow’s prophecy have also come true as a few people that don’t mean well for the industry have used the opportunity to ferment trouble and open old wounds. This is not right. Hence, It is important to make certain clarifications on the matters on ground.

1.       The news of the court ruling annulling the November 2012 elections is true and as law abiding citizens, we will not do anything outside our constitutional right.
2.       We have expressed our right and have appealed the case.
3.       The Judgment did not make Emeka Ike the president of the Actors’ guild of Nigeria.
4.       The court judgment points to the direction that the election that brought me in was illegal.
5.       The case in question is between actor Emeka Ike , the board of trustees and the Segun Arinze lead government of National unity. It is not between I and Emeka Ike as some blogs have wrongly reported. I have no issues with Emeka Ike.
6.        The Board of trustees has done well to uphold our constitution’s provision that there cannot be a lacuna in government, hence Ibinabo Fiberesima Egbuka remains the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria.
7.       Ibinabo Fiberesima Egbuka remains committed to the well-being of the acting community of Nigeria. That is what she was elected to do. That, she we will continue to do.
AGN….. The show must go on.

The Benefits of 'Beauty Sleep'

You've probably already noticed that when you skimp on sleep, it shows on your face. Tired skin sags, bags, and loses its luster.
“Lack of sleep causes blood vessels to dilate, causing the look of dark circles,” says dermatologist Sonia Badreshia-Bansal, MD, of the University of California, San Francisco. Sleepily rubbing your eyes doesn't help those dark rings.
Below are some benefits of beauty sleep....

Faster-Healing Skin

“Beauty sleep” is real. Your skin uses sleep hours to heal itself from the day’s damage. When you drift off, your skin gets the chance to improve. That’s why you may wake up looking fresh and rosy.

Fewer Breakouts

More sleep, clearer skin. Lack of sleep can lead to stress, which causes pimples and blackheads, even in adults. In one study, experts found that college students had more breakouts when they were stressed out, such as during exam time.

Brighter Eyes

Want eyes that sparkle? Don’t let dark circles steal their spotlight. Dark circles often run in families, but they can look even darker if you aren’t getting enough shut-eye. To disguise them, apply a light layer of eye cream as a primer. Then dab on and blend in a dot of concealer one to two shades lighter than your skin tone.
Woman Sleeping in Bed

You Look “Better”!

Sure, you may feel fine running on fumes, but your friends, family, and coworkers are apt to notice. Researchers in Sweden asked a study group to look at pictures of sleep-starved people vs. ones who’d had eight hours. The well-rested people seemed healthier, less tired — and more attractive.

Outsmart Puffiness

You wake up with puffy eyes because fluid collects around them when your head lies flat on the bed. Solution: Prop your head above your heart at night with a couple of pillows. Still packing bags under your eyes? Apply a cold cloth to the area for a minute or two in the morning.

No more postponement of elections —Jega

CHAIRMAN, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday, assured the nation that there would be no further postponement of the general election, saying the elections will hold as scheduled on March 28 and April 11.
Professor Jega gave the assurance in Abuja, on Wednesday, while speaking at an interactive session with the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, a coalition of over 60 civil society organisations, adding that the commission was fully prepared for the exercise.
He disclosed that already, 11 states had, so far, achieved over 90 per cent permanent voter card (PVC) collection, while others had also been impressive.
According to him, the commission had put to good use, the six-week extension of the polls, adding that “we are now adequately ready for the elections, which have been rescheduled to March 28 and April 11.
“I want to say that I’ve not seen any indication from anywhere that there is a desire for another postponement of this election. So, we are all focused on March 28 and April 11.”

US urges Jega, INEC to use Card Reader In The General Elections

The United States has urged Prof. Attahiru Jega and INEC to use the Permanent Voters Card(PVC) and the Smart Card Readers in the general elections slated for March 28 and April 11.

The US government through its vice president, Joe Biden spoke with President Goodluck Jonathan as well as APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on the forthcoming presidential election.

In a statement issued by the US embassy today, Biden commended President Jonathan and Buhari for signing the Abuja peace accord in mid January. He further expressed support INEC and it's work to deliver free, fair and credible elections.

The introduction of PVC and Card Reader for use in the general election has been a subject of hot debate in Nigeria.

Court strikes out suit challenging use of PVCs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may have been given the go ahead to make use of the the PVCs for the conduct of the forthcoming general elections.
This is because a suit filed by a group, Society for Advancement and Protection of Public Rights, seeking a court order to stop INEC from using the PVCs for the general elections was on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, struck out by justice Abdulkadir Abdul-Kafarati of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The plaintiff hinged its prayers on the ground that the use of the card readers was likely to lead to the disenfranchisement of eligible voters, arguing that since INEC had not engaged in trial application of the PVCs and card readers, the effectiveness of the machine could not be guaranteed.

Pope Francis commends Nigerian priests for standing strong in the face of Boko Haram violence

Pope Francis has applauded the bravery of Nigerian priests who have stood strong in the face of Boko Haram violence and worked to build bridges with the Muslim community.
“How can we fail to remember the priests, religious men and women, missionaries and catechists (lay teachers) who, despite untold sacrifices, never abandoned their flock, but remained at their service,” the Argentinian pope was quoted as saying by AFP in an open letter on Tuesday.
“I wish here to express my heartfelt thanks to you, because in the midst of so many trials and sufferings the Church in Nigeria does not cease to witness to hospitality, mercy and forgiveness,” he said.
Pope Francis also slammed the militants as “people who claim to be religious, but who instead abuse religion, to make of it an ideology for their own distorted interests of exploitation and murder.”

"He's a wonderful man. And just because he's changing shoes now, so to speak, doesn't make him less wonderful.
"I will always love my dad, whether he's a man or a woman."
