Buhari administration to scrap Office of First Lady

The presidency has disclosed that an official portfolio was yet to be assigned to be Aisha, the wife of President Muhmmadu Buhari, hinting of a possible scrapping of the “First Lady’s office” and the likelihood of renaming it “Office of the Wife of the President”.
The presidency also said Mrs. Buhari would, for now, be saddled with women and youth related issues in the country.
The Presidency stated this while reacting to allegations in some Nigerian media that the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari has moved into the First Lady’s office in the Aso Villa.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Shehu Garba, the presidency described allegation as totally false and fictitious, adding that even though there was absolutely nothing wrong with Mrs. Buhari making use of the office space reserved for the First Lady, she had not done so in her capacity.
“President Buhari promised that there would be a clear difference between the role played by his wife during his tenure and that played by many previous First Ladies.
“All that ostentation, ubiquitousness and arrogance we have come to expect from the office are over and done with. Change has come.
“The ideal platform from which she will be useful to Nigeria’s women and children is still being thought out. Once this has been concluded on, Mrs. Buhari’s role will become clearer to all Nigerians. There will be nothing shady or hidden about it. There will be no access to public funds. It will be purely private and voluntary”, he said.
Shehu added that the only time Mrs. Buhari had to make use of the office was at the beginning of the present administration, adding that the meeting during which she hosted the wives of governors was held in a section of the Villa’s banquet hall, not in the First Lady’s office.
“Her only visit to that office was at the point of the take-over of the Villa by the incoming administration.

Man Sentenced To 359 Years In Jail For Murder & Raping 2-Year Old

A 26-year old man, Jerry Active, has been sentenced to 359 years in jail for raping a 2-year old and killing her grandparents.

Active head beat Touch Chea, 71, and Sorn Sreap, 73, to death in their Anchorage home in 2013.

One of the sexual assault counts included the rape of a 90-year old woman, who died in June.

Anchorage Superior Court JudgePhilip Volland said, “Mr. Active’s actions will remain a scar on the community.”

Banky W Didn’t Discover Wizkid, I Did – OJB Jezreel

Music producer, OJB Jezreel during a chat with Saturday Beats  for the first time disclosed he discovered young act, Wizkid and not Banky W like many people have been made to believe. He says he thinks it will be funny that at almost 50 he will be caught in an argument that has to do with something like that, but he actually discovered him and has no regret doing that.
“To set the records, I discovered Wizkid’s talent. We basically started his career and I remember when we had to push Wizkid around and take him for shows but nobody was ready to allow him to perform because they were not ‘feeling’ him at that point in time. When he had the chance and said he wanted to move on and try other things, we were behind him then too. If we did not discover him, he would not have been with us.
I was the first person to go to his family house to tell them that it would be a nice idea if they allowed him to go into music. We have been there from day one but not everybody know this story, we don’t just make noise about it. It is not Banky W that discovered him, I did. I would soon be 50 years old and I think it would be funny if I start blowing my trumpet,” he said.
OJB Jezreel told Saturday Beats that he has no regrets when it comes to Wizkid because he pushed his career as far as he could.
“There are some artistes that if you spend millions of naira on them, they would not be impactful until they cross borders. Take Harrysongs for example, millions was spent on him but nothing happened till he crossed over to Five Star Entertainment. There is no how Harrysongs would say that Questionmark record label was not a blessing to his life. Sometimes, these things happen like that and I think it is destiny,” he said.

Doctor Flees as 3 Generations of a Family Die during Delivery of a Baby in Lagos

In a bizarre story that has continued to perplex investigators and residents of a Lagos community, three generations of a family have died during the delivery of a baby.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that on May 7, 2015 Dr. Bosun Owolabi, was contacted when 34-year-old Edith Ororobi, went into labour to give birth to her first child ever.

The doctor allegedly raced to the house at Bogije Town in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos in the dead of the night.

But by the time he was done with the delivery, Edith; her 61-year-old mother, Elizabeth Ororobi, who
witnessed the procedure, and the newborn baby, were all dead.

Police sources familiar with the case said that Owolabi instantly fled the scene only to contact a relation of the victims on the phone and explained how the grandmother, mother and newborn baby died.

The man, who was contacted was Elizabeth’s younger brother, Jite Tubman.

In his statement to the police, Tubman explained that at about 3.14am on May 7, he received a call from a doctor, whom he later learnt was Dr. Owolabi.

Tubman said:

“The doctor said my elder sister died of shock after realising that her daughter, Edith, had died during delivery. The father of the dead newborn baby, has travelled out of the country. I later reported the case to the police, who took an ambulance and followed us to the house.

The bodies of mother, child and grandmother were deposited at the Lagos Island General Hospital.

A police source said that by the time they got to the scene, Owolabi, was nowhere to be found.

“The mother was found in a pool of her own blood while the baby was found dead on a bed. The grandmother was also found on the floor lying on her right side. We are still searching for the doctor. The family has even refused to come forward after reporting the case,” a police source said.

The case was transferred from the Elemoro Police Division at Ibeju-Lekki to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Panti, Yaba.

When Saturday PUNCH contacted Dr. Owolabi on the phone to get his side of this story, he said his lawyer would be in a position to tell the story better.

“I don’t want to say what I did not do,” he said/

Asked to explain what actually happened during the delivery and why he was on the run, Dr. Owolabi said:

“I am not on the run. That is a lie. I was never arrested and I am not aware that the case is now at Panti (DCI). I cannot say anything further.”

The police believe that Dr. Owolabi works with the Government Health Centre at Arapaji Village, Ibeju-Lekki but explained that the case has been stalled because the family seemed not to be interested in it.

Etcetera Comes For Buhari In New Article, Says “Nigerians Have Been Fooled Yet Again!”

Today, the former musician turns critic is calling out President Muhammadu Buhari in his writeup!....Enjoy!

“I believe if Nigeria does not kill corruption; corruption will kill Nigeria. I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities and encourage my political appointees to also publicly declare their assets and liabilities.” – President Buhari (during his campaign)

Now, the presidency through the presidential spokesman has said the promise of asset declaration wasn’t made by Buhari but his political party. Jeez! These people just think say we be mumu sha… dem think say everybody for naija dey suffer from dyslexia. Shebi na dem preach say Buhari na modest man with just two houses and 150 cattle? They also said Buhari and Osinbajo have declared their assets, and it is deposited with the code of conduct bureau and the only thing needed is just verification by the bureau? How many months does the Code of Conduct Bureau need to verify an asset of two houses and 150 cattle? Nawa ooo!!! Naija una don see una sef? Is this the “change?”
President Buhari’s achievements as a former military Head of State may be many. But he has utterly failed to keep a simple promise core to the rationale for his election into office. And as the campaign promises recede into memory, it is equally clear that this administration may never provide the needed reforms that will address the most worrisome flaws in our democratic system.
I have met a lot of Buhari supporters who are finally coming to the realisation that they may have made a very bad decision in the last Presidential election. So many of them no longer seem to know why they believed that a retired military general would perform any better than the career politicians they mistrust.
President Buhari’s bygone promises to run “the most transparent administration in the history of this country” have become a subject of mockery, given how he has failed in a simple task of appointing ministers.
When critics like me attacked his go-slow government, the administration defended itself by claiming the president was only taking his time.
But the problem with this administration is not only about being too slow but it has also left untouched the corrupt individuals, which means that we would continue to live under a government with significant transparency problems, a culture of lobbying that is often tantamount to sanctioned corruption, and an executive branch of government that preaches a change that no one gets to see.
Is it unrealistic to expect ambitious systemic reforms in Nigeria? Yet it remains the case that many people voted for Buhari precisely because he promised to attempt them.
I believe president Buhari can solve a lot of things … but won’t. Whatever he once was or wasn’t, we should accept that Buhari is now a creature of the political establishment. He is captive to its loyalties and prejudices, and committed to safeguarding its interests. I am not arguing that he hasn’t or won’t accomplish anything, but there are whole categories of problems that he won’t try to fix.
“Change” is a mirage sold to us by Buhari and his political party to get our votes. And that’s a shame. Nigerians are unlikely to support a politician making similar promises in the future because Buhari has made them impossible to believe.
Those sending messages to me atmail@etceteralive.com asking me to write on how Buhari’s administration has improved electricity supply in the country should ask themselves how long president Buhari has been in office to put in place the machinery for such a turnaround. Abi rain nor dey fall for una area?
Let us wait till the dams are dried up before singing halleluyah.

Buhari appoints Obasanjo as special envoy to Guinea Bissau

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concerned over the unfolding political situation in Guinea Bissau following the dismissal of the Prime Minister, Mr Domingos Pereira, and his cabinet by President Jose Mario Vaz.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.
It stated that Buhari had already sent former President Olusegun Obasanjo as his Special Envoy to mediate and help find a solution to the crisis brewing in that country.
According to the statement, Buhari’s peace mission is in demonstration of true African solidarity and brotherhood.
The statement maintained that Obasanjo had embarked on the first leg of his mission by consulting with the current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Macky Sall of Senegal in Dakar on Thursday.

Buhari appealed for calm and called on the leadership in Guinea Bissau to exercise utmost restraint and ensure the maintenance of law and order as efforts continue to resolve the current crisis.

His suspension was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Interior, Yusuf Isiaka Alhaji, on behalf of the permanent secretary of the ministry.
However, in spite of widespread belief, the Presidency insists that Parradang was not suspended because an ISIS chief got a Nigerian visa.
However, in spite of widespread belief, the Presidency insists that Parradang was not suspended because an ISIS chief got a Nigerian visa.
Ahmad al-Assir, a leader of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, recently managed to get a valid Nigerian visa in Lebanon.
The ISIS leader who is on international list of wanted terrorists obtained the visa on a fake Palestinian passport and was on his way to Nigeria before he was arrested in Lebanon.
Femi Adesina, the special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, however, said that the suspension of Parradang has to do with the unauthorized recruitment into Immigration Service.
