"I Met My Wife, Omotola, a Virgin” - Captain Mathew Ekeinde

Captain Ekeinde spoke to Society Editor, TAYO FAJORIN- OYEDIJI on why he chose Omotola, and married her at an early age and what has kept their marriage for 20 years. He also spoke on his career in the Aviation industry.

How does it feel being been married to sexy actress, Omotola?
Well, it has been great, the past 20 years that we have been married now. It has its own good and bad sides, the good side is that you get favours and the bad side of it is that you don’t have privacy. Apart from that, it has been fun.

How do you cope with her busy career schedule in fulfilling her role as a wife and mother?
We have a work plan or ethic that anytime she is on location or she is out of the house for few days or few weeks, I try to schedule my flights to ensure that I am around, so if I go on flight, I make sure I return home that very day or the following day, so we have been able to juggle it. Sometimes it does not work out because I am out and she is out as well and our kids are always alone, but most of the time, it has really worked out. That is how we have been able to juggle it over the years and it has been working.

Can you tell us what got you strucked to Omotola before you decided to marry her at a relatively young age.
I have always believed and still believed it was God’s arrangement, I met my wife when she was 16 and married her when she was 18 so I knew her for 2 years but she has always been a lot older than her age in terms of her maturity, her physical structure, and the way she thinks. She is way ahead of her peers in her IQ. Of course I am older than her for 10 years and that was never a barrier, it was just something that just happened, I saw her and I fell in love with her and of course because I had always wanted to marry a virgin and she had turned 18 then and she seemed to fit into every item on the list I had written I wanted in a woman, for me the age difference was not an issue, the age of consent in Nigeria is 18,infact that was why I waited for her actually so it just happened, I can’t tell you why, nothing really specific but its heaven’s arrangement.

How did you career as a pilot start?
I had always wanted to be a Pilot since age 5. My Dad used to be the Divisional Police Officer incharge of Ikeja way back in the 70s, one of these independents day, it was his duty as the one in charge of the Ikeja, Airport to patrol and make sure most of the men are at the right place because the capital then was Lagos and they used to have the march past at the Tafawa Balewa Square, we used to have air force pilots taken off from the airport to fly over the Tafawa Balewa Square, so he often took me to the Air Force hanger because he had some air force officers that were pilots. we got there and they put me into the cockpit of a fighter airplane, yes it was on old one way back then I was 5 years old, that was like 1973/74,so you can imagine a 5 year old in a cockpit of a 5 year old plane, it blew my mind away and from that time I decided I was going to fly, so all through my primary and secondary school, I got stucked to that idea that I was going to be a Pilot, my parents tried to dissuade me, giving me reasons why being a Pilot will not work for me and all that but I just would not be deterred, that was how my aviation life started and when I finished secondary school at the age of 16,I went to the Aviation school, I got my license at age 16 and started flying at that age.

How did you rise through the ladder in your career?
I started flying in England and then came back to Nigeria in 1991 and joined Aero Contractors. I have worked for most airlines since then, I worked for AIC airlines owned by Chief Harry Akande, I worked for Bellview, I flew for Sosoliso, I have flown for Air Nigeria, we started Arik Air, I m now with Bristow Helicopters (Pan African Airline) so I have actually gone through the ranks.

What has kept your marriage for 20 years?
I believe it is God. My wife and I understand each other very well. We are well grounded in the bible, we both understand the words of God, we have an agreement and an understanding that no matter what the issues are, we sit down and we talk about it. For us Divorce is not an option, it does not even come in to play so we try to work things out no matter what it is and by Gods grace, our marriage has lasted this long.

What is your opinion about people saying actresses’ marriages don’t last and it is not a good profession but yours has lasted 20 years?
That notion was way back in the 80s and early 90s, not anymore, I remember when I was growing up in school playing football, people felt that footballers are wayward, they don’t have a future because they cannot make their academic marks, and that’s why you are playing football but these days even people in the university want to play football because there is so much money in it and it is now seem to be a glorified job so to speak so it is same thing with acting and singing, I don’t think there is any parent out there who thinks this profession are wayward. It is just for the individual to put their head straight and know their plans and also what they are doing.

Can you tell us about Omotola as your wife and a mother?
One thing is that she is a terrific cook, yes she is a yoruba and I am Igbo, I have always believed that Yoruba’s don’t have different types of delicacies like the igbos that has all kind of soups. When we got married, she had a lot of igbo friends who taught her how to cook all the Igbo soups and so she is an expert, she cooks very well. I don’t smoke and I don’t drink but I eat a lot and my kids love food as well. At home, she is just like anyone else, she is very simple, does her own house chores, makes sure the kids tidy up their rooms, help in the kitchen, tidy up the living room , yes we have house helps and people that help us but not all the time that we use them. So she is normal at home.

Can you tell us about your background?
I am from Edo state, precisely Sabon Gida Ora of Owan Local Government , I understand a little bit of Yoruba, I went to Emmanuel College Owerri, I actually grew up in the east, my primary and nursery was in Lagos, and because my dad used to be a Police Officer, we got transferred around the country especially in the east so my secondary school, all 5 years was in Owerri. My Mum is Igbo, precisely Abo in Delta State. They are alive and doing well.

After more than 50 allegations, Bill Cosby has been charged with sexual assault

Disgraced comedy legend Bill Cosby was charged with aggravated indecent assault on Wednesday stemming from allegations made by a former Temple University employee, Andrea Constand.

The charge is the first criminal complaint Cosby, 78, is facing, though scores of women have come forward in recent years and accused the comedian of rape or sexual assault. Many of the claims leveled by women follow a similar pattern: Cosby first drugged them, and while they were incapacitated, he sexually violated them. That is the basis of the claim for which he was charged on Wednesday.

Constand said that in 2004, Cosby drugged her inside his home in a Philadelphia suburb and then sexually attacked her. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced the charge, a first-degree felony, at a press conference on Wednesday morning. Cosby has maintained his innocence despite allegations from dozens of women.

Nnamdi Kanu apologises for calling Buhari terrorist, evil, paedophile

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari for calling him a terrorist, evil and a paedophile in his radio broadcasts.
Kanu, who has been charged along with two others by the Federal Government before a Federal High Court in Abuja on six counts of treason and other ancillary offences, said he intended to write a private letter to Buhari to express his apology to the President.
He also apologised to former President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for “some uncomplimentary things” he said about them.
The 48-year-old pro-Biafran agitation leader, who is, however, unapologetic about his demand for a Republic of Biafra, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his arrest in Lagos on October 14, 2015.
He tendered the apology for his comment against Buhari and others in a statement which he made to the DSS on October 23.
The prosecution, in its summary of the case, alleged that in one of the radio broadcasts by Kanu on August 1, 2015, he expressed his resolve to actualise the Republic of Biafra and “cast aspersions on the person and the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
The statement read in part, “Reference to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a terrorist, evil and a paedophile is regrettable and uncalled for and for that, I unreservedly apologise and will be doing so in a private letter to the President.
“Before PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) there was the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. I also said uncomplimentary things about him and Igbo elders as well, which I now recognise should not have happened because it is un-African to be rude or insolent to elders.
“All I was trying to do is to draw attention to the problems afflicting society and something done about them.”

Ritual Killer’s Den in Lagos Exposed after Victim with Slashed Throat Escaped

Residents of Big Daddy Street in the Atinplome, Bagadry area of Lagos State on Tuesday stormed an uncompleted building in the area, which they suspected to be a ritual killer’s den, after a female victim raised the alarm.

PUNCH Metro learnt that at about 12am, while a carnival went on in the area, a woman in her late 20s, whose name had yet to be known, had run into the party with her throat
partly cut, while blood was streaming out of her body.

It was gathered that the girl, who later became unconscious and was rushed to a private hospital in the area, told the partying crowd that an alfa, identified as Mallam Sheu, had tricked her into the uncompleted structure before slitting her throat
with a knife.

The matter was said to have been reported at the Morogbo Police Division, and some policemen came to the scene, but the alfa was said to have fled the uncompleted apartment.
It was learnt that in the morning, more residents thronged the area and they were said to have found bloodstains, old clothes, charms and ladies’ clothes inside the structure.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, a resident who identified herself as Mummy Eso, said youths in the area attempted to burn the den in the afternoon, thinking that the girl had died as a result of her injuries.
Mummy Eso added that the alfa did not stay in the area and nobody suspected that he used the place for evil purpose.

She said, “There was commotion in our area in the midnight when boys holding a street party saw the girl bleeding from the throat. The girl, who just managed to speak, pointed to the structure and said an alfa had attempted to kill her, but she managed to escape.
“One of her hands had also been tampered with. So, the youths became furious and headed for the uncompleted building. Some policemen, who were also on guard duties at the carnival were informed about the incident and they went too. But information had got to the man, and he escaped before they could arrest him.
“Since morning, people have been coming to the area to check the building. They attempted to burn it in the afternoon.”
Another resident, identified as Akeem Ajao, who visited the building, said the youths found old bloodstains, clothes and charms.

He said, “The lady ran into the carnival with blood streaming out of her body. One of those at the carnival saw her and came to her rescue. She said a man was in the house trying to slaughter her.
“We rushed the girl to a hospital, where she is now receiving treatment. We did not know that the alfa used the house to do evil works. The girl’s clothes were bloodstained. The police have also come to the area this morning.
“When I entered the house, I saw bloodstains, charms and a human bone was also in the man’s car – a Gulf 4 vehicle. It was the boys holding the carnival who noticed the girl.
“The girl’s neck was cut. Nobody knows the family of the girl involved. The man has run away from the area.”
Our correspondent gathered that the alfa had been having an affair with the lady, before he took her to the uncompleted building on the evening of the carnival.
The lady was said to have come from the Igando area to Atinplome.

"I Didn’t Return To Music Because I Failed In Politics" – 9ice

Nigerian Indigenous music heavyweight star, 9ice has denied claims that he returned to music because he failed in politics.

The ‘Gongo Aso’ crooner, according to reports shocked his fans when he showed his interest in running for a House of Reps seat in Oyo state but unfortunately lost during the APC primary in the last elections.

Speaking with Punch, 9ice affirmed that although he did not win the election, the experience has taught him a lot.

In his words, he said:
“When I got into politics I realised that whatever level you attain in life, there are people who are more successful. If you think you are the richest man alive, politics would teach you that there are richer men on earth. There are a lot of things that need to be done and a lot of wrongs that need to be right. We need someone like a prophet to lead this country. We need someone with the fear of God. It goes beyond having a degree; we need leaders with the fear of God. We need someone like Pastor Adeboye to rule this country, besides he is educated and that is a plus. We need someone with good conscience and the fear of God. We don’t have that in Nigeria.”
The singer, after fighting a good fight, but losing the APC primaries in his Ogbomosho hometown, returned to his true calling while stressing that he did not return to music because he failed in politics.

9ice finished up saying that:
“It is not true that I am returning to music after failing in my political endeavours. People would always talk. When I went into politics, people said that it was because I was no longer making money through music. Music is my passion and even if it does not put food on my table, I would continue to pursue my passion. Music is something I can do for free. If it pays my bills fine, but if it doesn’t, I would still continue to do music. They have not heard the last of my political sojourn; come 2019, I would contest again.”

Reports claim that no fewer than seven persons also escaped death in the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State following the fire incident.
The incident which happened around 2pm, was reportedly caused by an electrical fault in the tanker’s engine. It was gathered that as the driver and other mechanics attempted to fix the fault, there was a spark, which led to an explosion, The Punch reports.
