The Russia government has denied reports that the aircraft and it's crew detained in Kano on Saturday belong to them.
"The plane detained in Nigeria, according to earlier media reports, does not belong to Russia and it's crew is not Russia either" a spokesperson for the embassy in Abuja said.
Various reports on Saturday, citing security sources in Nigeria, had said the aircraft allegedly loaded with dangerous weapons, intercepted by Nigerian authority while taking off to Chad, was Russia.
The aircraft however had a French speaking crew.
The plane had been reportedly traveling from Banjui, the capital of Central African Republic to the Chadian capital N'Djamena but was forced to make an emergency landing in Kano beause N'Djamena airport was closed.
According to reports, the five crew members were detained, while inspectors examining the shipments found two helicopters, a bullet-proof jeep and boxes suspected to contain military hardware.
