A gas explosion reportedly rocked the city of Akure, the Ondo state capital on Saturday with many feared dead.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started at a gas plant, when some attendants at the station were tying to fill a gas cylinder. It was not clear how many died in the incident.
Residents who were angry over the delay of the fire fighters in arriving the scene, attacked the firemen with stones to express their displeasure.
It took the effort of men from the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure to curtail the mob to enable the fire fighters do their job.
