Sierra Leone Bans Christmas/New Year Celebrations As Ebola Crises Deepens

Sierra Leone streets will be filled not with celebrations and churchgoers but with military personnel on Christmas and New Year day, according to an announcement from the Ebola-striken country.
Soldiers are to be deployed throughout the festive period to force people venturing into the streets back indoors, the government Ebola response unit said.

Palo Conteh, head of the department told reporters that; "There would be no Christmas and New year celebrations this year. We will ensure that everybody remains at home to reflect on Ebola."

Sierra Leone has become the most affected country in the deadliest Ebola outbreak in history. The government put the country on lock-down for three days in September in an attempt to slow down the spread of the virus
As of this week, more than 1,800 people have died of Ebola in Sierra Leone and there have been more than 8,000 confirmed cases of the disease, since the outbreak.
