A final year student of Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra state, did the unthinkable when she left her groom stranded at the altar on their wedding day.
After several hours of waiting, the bride-to-be reportedly sent a message to the officiating priest , Rev. Father Lawrence Maduagwu that she was no longer interested and asked him to cancel the wedding.
The wedding was to take place on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Umuchu in Agwata LGA of Anambra state and invited guests were shocked when the bride, Ifunanya Igwebuike refused to show up to tie the knot with Ekene Uzoigwe.
Ifunanya said she couldn't go ahead with the wedding because, she was a graduate unlike her fiancé, who she claimed was a school drop-out.
After the wedding was canceled, it caused uproar in the church as guests who expressed shock, started trooping out.
Narating what happened Uzoigwe said he proposed to Ifunanya and she agreed on the condition that he would send her to school, which he agreed. He financed her education and they agreed to wed after
graduation.
He said he paid her bride price and even gave her parents N160,000 to prepare for the wedding, not including other arrangements and expenses incurred on the wedding and reception.
Uzoigwe said she didn't show any signs and did not not inform him about her backing out of the wedding until the he got to church, only for the priest to inform him and the guests that the wedding is cancelled.
"If she had informed me, I would not have made arrangements. We had already cooked food and bought drinks for the wedding,” he said.Uzoigwe who is still in shock at what happened, said he did not quarrel with Ifunanya before the wedding day. When he contacted her parents, they said they would not force her and and he should come take back the money he gave them to prepare for the wedding.
