Two people, 5 vehicles, 5 motorcycles and 20 shops were burnt this morning as fire razed the popular Mile 12 market in Lagos.

According to reports, the fire started in the early hours of the morning with balls of fire ascending into the air and disrupting the peace of the residents.  Some people selling fuel and diesel in one of the shops may have caused the inferno as the fire stated from that section.

Traders watched helplessly as their goods and shops worth millions of naira were destroyed in the fire.

Officials of Lagos State Fire Service were able to put off the fire at 8:40am after four hours.
