PDP accuses APC of being behind the present fuel scarcity

PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO, yesterday accused APC of being behind the present fuel scarcity in the country, just as it accused the opposition of sabotaging Federal Government’s effort at ensuring that there was supply of Petroleum products.
The APC has, however, described the accusation as totally unconscionable, and indeed an admission of failure for a sitting government and ruling party to blame the opposition for their failings.
A statement yesterday by the Director, Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign,Chief Femi Fani- Kayode said the sudden fuel scarcity in many parts of the country was because the APC has infiltrated the ranks of the fuel marketers.
“We know who the fuel marketers are. We know the relationship that exists between one of the biggest fuel marketers and a national leader of the APC.
“These unconscionable opposition elements infiltrated the ranks of the fuel marketers, whom they have contracted, in a calculated attempt to frustrate the good efforts of government.
APC reacted through a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
“The questions to ask are: who runs the NNPC? Who pays subsidy to fuel marketers? Who has used federal resources to bribe individuals and groups to such a level that there is no money to run the government, not to talk of paying subsidies?”

Man bites off son's ear for defending his mother(Pictured)

There was drama as truck loader, Udeme Inim, 30, allegedly bit off his stepson’s ear in Ebute Metta on Monday.

According to reports, the incident occurred due to a disagreement between Inim and his wife, which had led to the suspect assaulting her.

Christopher Bassey then intervened and Inim left his wife and attacked him instead – biting off his right ear.

Bassey was rushed to a hospital shortly after he reported the matter to the Iponri Police Station, but sadly his ear could not be saved. He narrated his ordeal saying, “On that day, he was fighting with my mum and at a point he began to destroy some of our property. It was too much for me to bear. So I tried to stop him and that was when he attacked me and bit off my ear.”

The police arraigned Inim before a Magistrate’s Court on one count of assault. Inim said, “I am employed. I work with Cross Country Company as the manager. It was the police that gave me the clothes in their station; it is not my clothes.”

The Investigating Police Officer, Sergeant Dibia Godwin, told the court that Inim had entered the station stark naked. According to him, “He works as a loader with Cross Country. On that day, the victim had first come to the station to report; there was blood all over him, he had to be taken to the hospital.
“Shortly after, he (Inim) also rushed in. He was stark naked. He said he wanted to report the same matter and we wondered how he could say he wanted to make a report after disfiguring somebody’s ear. We had to get something to put on him.”

Was this the house where Jesus grew up? (See Photos)

A scholar believes this house hewn into a hillside, with a humble stone and mortar may be where Jesus was raised.
According to reports by Daily Mail, it has been dated to the early 1st century by a British archaeologist who says an ancient text points to the building as being the home in Nazareth where Mary and Joseph brought up the son of God.

Professor Ken Dark says De Locis Sanctis, written in 670 by Irish monk Adomnan, described the house as located between two tombs and below a church.
In the Byzantine era, and again in the 12th century at the time of the Crusades, the ruins of the building were incorporated into churches – suggesting it was of great significance and needed to be protected, the Reading University archaeologist argues.

The house was cut into a limestone hillside and has a series of rooms and a stairway. One of the original doorways has survived, as has part of the original chalk floor.
Writing in the journal Biblical Archaeological Review, Dr Dark says that while he has no proof, there is ‘no good reason’ to believe it was not Jesus’s home.

He has been researching the ruins, in what is now northern Israel, since 2006.
The house was first identified as significant in the 1880s after the chance discovery of by nuns an ancient cistern. An excavation was ordered. Since 2006, Dr Dark’s team has discovered broken cooking pots, a spindle whorl and limestone artefacts.
The limestone items suggest a Jewish family lived there as Jews believed that limestone could not be impure – and Mary and Joseph were living in Nazareth when the angel Gabriel revealed that Mary would give birth to the son of God, a baby to be named Jesus.

Dr Dark, a specialist in first century and Christian archaeology, argues that the house he believes was Jesus’s boyhood home matches Adomnan’s account.
It is located beneath the Sisters of Nazareth Convent, which is across the road from Church of Annunciation in Nazareth.
The Adomnan text describes two churches in Nazareth, one of which was the Church of Annunciation.
Dr Dark writes: ‘The other stood nearby and was built near a vault that also contained a spring and the remains of two tombs.’
The Sisters of Nazareth Convent matches this because there is evidence of a large Byzantine church with a spring and two tombs in its crypt, he says.
Dr Dark writes: ‘Great efforts had been made to encompass the remains of this building. Both the tombs and the house were decorated with mosaics in the Byzantine period, suggesting that they were of special importance, and possibly venerated.
‘Was this the house where Jesus grew up? It is impossible to say on archaeological grounds.
‘On the other hand, there is no good archaeological reason why such an identification should be discounted.’
In 2009 archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority found another 1st century home nearby they believed had been occupied by a Jewish family. However they were able to say only that Jesus may have lived near the site.

Crazy Gay fan viciously grabs Dr Rey of 90210’s penis in public

Doctor Robert Rey, the hunky cosmetic surgeon of the famous reality TV show- Dr 90210, was reportedly sexually assaulted by a crazy male fan in Brazil, where he was vacationing over the weekend.

According to Dr Rey, the assault took place on Saturday, at the Campina Grande Restaurant where he was having lunch. A man who claimed to be the surgeon’s fan requested to take a photograph with him and after Rey permitted it, the man reached for his crotch and gave it a rough squeeze, screaming “Dr Gay!!” as he did it.

Dr Rey who studies martial arts was then compelled to deal the crazy fan a few blows and a kick for self defence. This however led to what was termed a “drunken brawl” between other diners in the restaurant which the Doctor somehow managed to remove himself from.

No charges were pressed by the Doctor because according to him; “I was young and also did youth nonsense!”

Good news for Coffee drinkers - a few cups a day may be good for the heart

Drinking a few cups of coffee a day may help people avoid clogged arteries - a known risk factor for heart disease - Korean researchers believe.
They studied more than 25,000 male and female employees who underwent routine health checks at their workplace.
Employees who drank a moderate amount of coffee - three to five cups a day - were less likely to have early signs of heart disease on their medical scans.
The findings reopen the debate about whether coffee is good for the heart.

Heart effects

There is a lot of confusion when it comes to the effect of coffee on heart health.
angiogram showing an obstructed coronary artery
In heart disease, the arteries supplying the heart muscle can become blocked
Some studies have linked consumption to heart risk factors, such as raised cholesterol or blood pressure, while others suggest the beverage may offer some heart protection.
But there is no conclusive evidence either way, and the latest research from South Korea, which is published in the journal Heart, only adds to the discussion.
People who drank a few cups of coffee a day were less likely to have calcium deposits in their coronary arteries than people who drank more than this or no coffee at all.
The study authors say more research is needed to confirm and explain the link.
Coffee contains the stimulant caffeine, as well as numerous other compounds, but it's not clear if these might cause good or harm to the body.
Victoria Taylor of the British Heart Foundation said: "While this study does highlight a potential link between coffee consumption and lower risk of developing clogged arteries, more research is needed to confirm these findings and understand what the reason is for the association.
"We need to take care when generalising these results because it is based on the South Korean population, who have different diet and lifestyle habits to people in the UK."

Research Claims AIDS Was Passed To Humans From Gorillas and Chimpanzees

AIDS came from gorillas as well as chimpanzees, new research suggests.
Two of the four known groups of viruses that cause the disease have been traced back to the great apes that share about 98 per cent of their DNA with humans.
It had been known simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) - the monkey equivalent of HIV - had jumped from chimpanzees into humans, but now it seems gorillas in Cameroon also played a vital role.
Scientists say understanding the disease's origins will help predict the future risk of an outbreak.
The connection was uncovered after researchers analysed faecal samples collected in remote forests.
They found HIV-1 groups known as 'O' and 'P' originated in western lowland gorillas.
HIV-1 - the virus that causes AIDS - has jumped species to infect humans on at least four separate occasions.

Dangote's fortune dropped to $14.7 billion from $25 billion last year; remains Africa's richest

According to Forbes margazine, Dangote was this “year’s biggest loser in dollar terms as his fortune dropped to $14.7 billion from $25 billion last year, propelled downward by a weaker Naira and shrinking demand for cement, his largest asset. He still retains the title of Africa’s richest man.

According to Forbes’ Inside The 2015 Forbes Billionaires List: Facts And Figures, Bill Gates is once again the richest person on the planet, a title he’s held for 16 of the past 21 years.
His fortune grew $3.2 billion since last year to $79.2 billion, despite a gift of $1.5 billion in Microsoft MSFT +0.66 per cent shares to The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in November 2014.
Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico comes in again at number two while revered American investor, Warren Buffett, took back the number three spot from Spain’s Amancio Ortega (now number four); not even the largest IPO in history was enough to beat the Oracle of Omaha this year.
Buffett was the list’s biggest gainer, up $14.5 billion to $72.7 billion, thanks to Berkshire Hathaway’s rising share price. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg moves up five spots to number 16, his first time ranked among the world’s 20 richest. Ma and three other Chinese are among the the biggest gainers and appear among the 50 richest on the list.
Facebook founder, Marck Zuckerberg is also the leader in a youth revolution that has minted 46 billionaires under the age of 40.

UK claims divulging information about Chibok girls will damage ties with Nigeria

Available information has it that the United Kingdom, UK, is withholding sensitive information regarding the whereabouts of the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents since April 14, 2014.
Shortly after the UK-based Security in Africa, SIA, group wrote to the British Defence Ministry, through its founder, Ben Oguntala, to seek information on the Chibok girls, the British government disclosed that revealing details of what it found on the location of the abducted girls would clearly damage its relationship with Nigeria and other allies.
The SIA founder told Punch that, “The information was sent on January 30 this year and the UK government has 20 days to comply. They do have a defence of national security and that would prevent them from disclosing the information. Let’s hope they don’t. If they rely on national security defence, we can raise the matter with the Information Commissioner’s office to determine if their claim of national security is reasonable.”
The British Ministry of Defence, MOD, which reacted in a letter dated February 25, a copy of which was made available to PUNCH, noted that some of the information requested “falls entirely within the scope of the qualified exemption provided for at section 27 (International Relations) of the FOIA and has been withheld.”
“Section 27 is a qualified exemption and is subject to public interest testing which means that the information requested can only be withheld if the public interest in doing so outweighs the public interest in disclosure.
“Section 27(1)(a), (1)(c) and (2) have been applied because some of the information has the potential to adversely affect relations with our allies.
“We have considered it necessary to apply the higher level of prejudice against release of the exempted information at the higher level of ‘would’ rather than ‘would be likely to’ adversely affect relations with our allies.”
The British defence ministry, which agreed to share details of the “technology, technique or methodology” used in its search, refused to release details of where the UK soldiers searched and the results of their findings.
