This man sold his 2-year-old son for the most ridiculous amount(Photo)

29-year-old man, Kanayo Awurum, has been arrested for allegedly selling his son for N450,000, identified as Samuel, to some middle-aged women.
According to reports by Punch, Kanayo, who worked as a painter, reportedly lied to his wife, Kelechi, that one of the women was his relative in Port Harcourt and the boy was going to live with her.
After reports had been made to the police, three women ─ Nkechi Obi, Cecilia Nwatu and Gladys Nwobodo ─ were apprehended for allegedly buying the child.
The women, who were working with Kanayo’s friend, identified only as Emmanuel, had visited the man and his wife to purchase the boy. Kanayo had apparently told Emmanuel, who is still at large, that he had some financial difficulties, and decided to sell his son for N450,000.
Emmanuel then advised Kanayo to sell his child to the women. Kanayo in turn mauled over the idea saying that his plan was to stabilise his family with the money as his wife was pregnant with another child.
He said, “I met Kelechi in our secondary school days in 2005. It was in 2010 that we started living together. In December 2012, she gave birth to Samuel. We were then living in Owerri, Imo State. I was working as a painter and also acted in movies. I was an upcoming actor so I was not well paid.
“From 2014, I started to have financial difficulties, and I wanted to come to Lagos to hustle. The idea to sell my child came in March 2015 when I finally decided to travel to Lagos. It was a friend, Emmanuel, who linked me to the women. I asked him to lend some money to me and he said I should use what I had to get what I wanted.
“I did not tell my wife that I wanted to sell our child. I lied to her that one of the women who came was my elder sister in Port Harcourt and our son was going to stay with her. My wife did not like the idea, but I convinced her that it was for our good.
“So, when we came to Lagos, we rented an apartment on Oluwaseyi Street in the Egbe area of Lagos. I was paid N450,000 for the boy. That was what I used to pay for the rent.”
Kelechi, 28, said that it was when she pestered Kanayo to bring her child home for a visit and the boy was not brought by the ‘relative’ that she suspected a foul play.
She said, “Samuel was two years and two months old when Kanayo said he was taking him to stay with his sister in Port Harcourt. In April, he went to Owerri for a painting work and promised that his sister would bring Samuel on a visit.
“On the day he promised, no one showed up. He also failed to come back to Lagos when he promised. I then told our landlord and one of his friends in Lagos, called Coach. Then, they agreed to trick my husband to come back home.
“When he arrived, they began to ask him questions and he later confessed that the boy was not actually with his relative. They went to report the matter at the Ikotun Police Division. That was how he was arrested.”
Samuel was recovered by the police last week Friday, and he had been reunited with Kelechi.

20-year-old Sodiq Sulaimon, yesterday appeared before an Ikeja High Court for allegedly procuring abortion for his 15-year-old lover who died in the process.

BBC mistakenly tweets Queen Elizabeth's death

That awkward moment when you are hale and hearty, probably maybe chatting with friends when you hear your death being announced. I guess that is what probably happened to Queen Elizabeth II when BBC mistakenly announced her death.
Although BBC officials have issued a public apology after a royal obituary rehearsal went public and sparked false reports suggesting Queen Elizabeth II had passed away.
Acording to 3news, One of BBC reporter, Ahmen Khawaja was part of a training exercise to teach staff about how to handle a royal death when a series of misleading tweets were accidentally sent out from her official Twitter account.
The messages began: “BREAKING: Queen Elizabeth is being treated at Edward 7th Hospital in London. Statement due shortly,” and later added, “Queen Elizabeth has died.”
The tweets were picked up by news outlets across the world and sparked rumors of a real royal death, which were compounded as the 89-year-old monarch was coincidentally admitted to the London hospital on Wednesday morning for her annual medical check-up.
Khawaja later deleted the tweets and told followers the news was not true, BBC officials too have issued a public apology for the scare.
“During a technical rehearsal for an obituary, tweets were mistakenly sent from the account of a BBC journalist… The tweets were swiftly deleted and we apologise for any offence,” the statement read.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace has also confirmed the Queen is alive and well, adding, “I can confirm that the Queen this morning attended her annual medical check-up at the King Edward VII’s Hospital. This was a pre-scheduled appointment and the Queen has now left the hospital.”

President Buhari Set To Take One More Petroleum Position

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is set to take one more petroleum position.

Buhari plans to become the next President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as the country still holds the seat, an official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said on June 4, Thursday, in Abuja.

The politician, who asked not to be named, said the exit of Diezani Alison-Madueke, ex-minister of petroleum resources, had nothing to do with the status of Nigeria as the President of the group.
The official said the post would be filled after the nomination of a new minister of petroleum by Buhari.
It is widely considered that the leader of the country will double as the Minister of Petroleum in a bid to rid the ministry of the massive corruption that has overwhelmed it.
The source said the ex-minister was elected at the 166th General Meeting of the OPEC, not in her own capacity but to introduce our country.
Diezani was elected the president of the international oil body on November 27, 2014 but commenced to occupy the office in January 2015.
The official added that the OPEC president is expected to serve for a period of one year and to chair over the meetings of the conference in the course of that presidency.

AIT, Raypower Shut Down By Workers Over 17 Months Salary Debt

The offices of Daar Communications Plc, operator of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM Radio, in Benin was on Wednesday shut down by workers protesting over unpaid salaries.

Eyewitnesses say that the protesting workers blocked the main entrance to the station located along the Benin/Lagos bypass. A detachment of anti-riot policemen were however called by the management of the station to forestall any break down of law.

It was gathered that the protesting workers put at 50 of AIT and Ray Power, were owed salaries salaries spanning between 12 and 17 months.

A staff who did not want his name in print, said newly employed staff of AIT were being owed 12 months while old staff were yet to be paid salaries between 13 months and staff of the Raypower FM, the Radio arm of the broadcast outfit were owed 17 months.

“The stations generate millions of naira on a daily basis, so there is no reason why we should not be paid our salaries. They have no excuse not to pay us our money. It is share wickedness and man’s inhumanity to his fellow man. We have families to care for and children to pay their school fees. Many of our children have stopped going to school. But their own attend schools abroad.
“Look at where our station is located, in another village so far away from Benin City. You have to chatter a cab for not less than N500.00 to get there if you miss the staff bus. And not even every cab driver will agree to go there because of the wrong location of the station, yet, they expect us to be there everyday, whether you have anything to do or not,”
Chairman of the organization, Raymond Dokpesi (Jnr) was said to have spoken to the protesters on phone. He allegedly appealed for calm, assuring them that the management will within one week do everything possible to pay parts of the salary arrears.

N3.2bn Severance: Jonathan, Sambo, Others To Wait Till 2016

A jumbo severance package for former President Goodluck Jonathan; his deputy, Namadi Sambo; immediate past ministers and presidential aides as well as non-returning federal lawmakers will not be paid until 2016.

Investigations byThe PUNCH show that the remuneration package put together by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission is valued at about N3.24bn.

Sources at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja confided in our correspondent on Thursday that the allowances of the political office holder, who  left office last Friday, were not captured in this year’s budget.

The 2015 budget, which was passed by the National Assembly and signed by Jonathan on April 28, makes a provision of N2.3bn for “entitlements of former Presidents/Heads of state and Vice Presidents/Chiefs of General Staff.”

Explaining the reason why the severance pay was not captured in this year’s budget, the official said as of last year when the 2015 budget was being prepared, the outcome of the April 2015 elections could not be ascertained.

He said since the outcome of the elections could not be predicted, there was no way the Budget Office could have determined the number of political office holders that would not be re-elected.
“You will recall that the 2015 budget was prepared sometime last year and during the budget preparation, the elections had not been held.
“So it would be wrong to include the severance package of political office holders in the budget because as of the time the budget was prepared, these people were still holding political offices.
“Secondly, including their severance package before the elections were conducted would mean that we were pre-empting the outcome of a political process.
“So what we do is to wait for the outcome of   elections and on the strength of this, we can know the number of people that have left office and those   re-elected.
“As for those political office holders that are leaving office this year, their severance package would be included in the 2016 budget, which will be prepared later in the year.”
Under the severance package put together by RMAFC, Jonathan is entitled to 300 per cent of his annual basic salary.

The President’s annual basic salary is put at N3, 514,705 and therefore his severance allowance will be N10, 544,115 after May 29.

Legalize Prostitution Or Give Us Jobs – Sex Workers Beg Buhari

Following the spate police raid in the country's capital territory, where over 3,000 prostitutes have been arreste, sex workers have reportedly thronged the streets of Abuja requesting that prostitution be legalized.

The group rallied under the slogan "Legalize prostitution now" and "Allow us to hustle for our daily bread", protesting harassment from law enforcement agencies.

It would be recalled that in the last 3months, more than 3,000 commercial sex workers have been arrested in Abuja in raid carried out by Special Task Force on City Cleaning and Management.

The women standing in for National Association of Nigerian Prostitutes expressed disappointment at what they called discrimination and indiscriminate arrests and molestation on daily basis.
One of the women, who preferred anonymity said: “We are Nigerians too and we only go about seeking our daily livelihood, so I see no reason why they should be harassing, arresting us and extorting money from us.”
“These same men are the ones who patronize us but during the day, they will be molesting us. What crimes have we committed? Many of us are graduates who could not secure jobs, so we hustle to make ends meet. We have families and responsibilities to meet, so they should allow us to work and make money.”

Mariah Carey Will Soon Die Like Whitney Houston For Drug Use: Her Brother Speaks Out

Yikes! Mariah Carey’s brother is throwing some serious shade her way. Morgan Carey is accusing the singer of having an alcohol and prescription pill addiction.

Mariah Carey, 45, hasn’t spoke to her brother, Morgan Carey, in over two years, but he recently opened up about his fears for what may happen to Mariah if she doesn’t change her alleged dangerous ways.

Morgan’s allegations about his sister are quite shocking — he claims he hasn’t ever seen her sober. “I can’t say that I have ever been around her when she was sober, and that’s very scary,” Morgan told the National Enquirer. “She does not have a support system, and she is not mentally capable.”

Her alleged alcohol addiction, according to her brother, is so bad she could end up like Whitney Houston
“(She) pushed away the only people who’ve been trustworthy. If my sister turns up dead … I’m not going to look the other way! Anyone who’s filling her glass is jeopardizing her life!”
Hope these two can speak privately about this situation, and finally mend these wounds. Morgan is also worried about the alleged cocktails of pills, he claims she takes daily.

‘Inside some men, lies an unexpressed woman’ - CharlyBoy weighs in on Caitlyn Jenner

Veteran musician Charly Boy has added his thoughts to the ongoing argument about Bruce Jennertransforming to Caitlyn Jenner at 65.
He shared a post on Facebook saying:
I must ask you this question. In our pursuit for happiness, do we focus on the dictates of life based on our social environment or on our own personal need of what individually makes us happy? For the past few days the global social media has been agog with Bruce Jenner sex change, he now wishes to be called Caitlyn.
Surfing through some of our local blogs, I have read some yahoo yahoo comments from Nigerians who feel that their yeye comments are really of any importance in the decision taken by this great Olympian, now, the gender bender.
Yes, I saw Bruce Jenner Vanity Fair interview. I read it over and over, it sounded so gutsy, sincere, truthful and so free. Bruce had always been married, had kids, and a successful career but for a long time he had  never been happy and content with being a man. Sometimes we find it difficult understanding what prompts one to make those kinds of changes that are physically and emotionally permanent and we start to speculate, Maybe he wanted to rebrand, wanted to put himself back into serious reckoning again. Yes, sometimes it can be about the drama and the almighty dollars who is to say. However, It just may be devoid of all those and just be a spiritual journey to finding self, purely a pursuit of happiness, about being free, and finding strength to be that which makes one feel complete irrespective of who’s ox is gored!
My take
It is not one’s masculinity or femininity alone that defines one’s identity, it is the harmony between the two that determines how comfortable and integrated one’s identity is going to be.  In other words, shocking as this may be to the more macho in our midst, inside some men, lies an unexpressed woman. And even more shocking is the proposition that the object of masculine identity development is not the elimination of this woman, but acknowledging the existence of, and fine-tuning the feminine side with the masculine part of the identity. In other words, blending the two fundamental principles of yin and yang to influence our behavior.
The “masculine woman” has become more socially acceptable than the “feminine man”, who is still an object of derision. And herein lies the root of the gender conflict. Women find it easy to pursue their masculinity; men find it disagreeable to even acknowledge, let alone pursue their femininity.  A few people have been able to find that balance and I am happy that Linda lives here, in me? Yesoooooo!
So to those of you in your personal pursuit for happiness whatever it is, climb every rainbow and follow every star till you find your dream.

How Breastfeeding Can Prevent Breast Cancer

In the first place, breastfeeding does not cause the breast to go flat. Mothers who still shy away from breastfeeding their babies because they think their breasts would go flat, need to have a rethink. Whether or not a woman breast feeds, her breasts would go flat more as a result of ageing and other physiological processes in the body.

Breastfeeding is the most cost effective source of reducing infant mortality and promoting a healthy life and especially for cognitive development.

Breastfeeding, according to paediatricians, provides health benefits for mothers beyond emotional satisfaction. Such health benefits include; cancer prevention, and protection from infectious diseases.

But perhaps one of the most important benefits of breastfeeding is that it does appear to protect against breast cancer, probably by affecting levels of estrogen in a woman’s body, Breastfeeding seems to help prevent, or at least delay, the onset of celiac disease, possibly by introducing tiny amounts of gluten to a baby through the mother’s milk.

In developing countries in Africa and Asia, women breastfed each of their babies for an average of 30 months. Since breast milk is the ideal nutrient for the new born, all women should be encouraged to breastfeed their children for cancer prevention.
New mothers are believed to reduce their risk of breast cancer by breastfeeding their babies, and the longer they continue, the lower their chances of developing the diseases become.

Research shows that one other benefit of breastfeeding babies, includes healthier immune systems and fewer breathing difficulties. The research by epidemiolo-gist Sir Richard Doll – who discovered the link between lung cancer and smoking – may now lead doctors to tell mothers that breastfeeding could protect them from the disease. It was also found that a woman’s risk fell by just over eight percent for every birth.

However, women who have breastfed experience reduced rate of breast cancer in life, thereby providing other health benefits in their babies including protection against celiac diseases

Explosion At Goil Filling Station In Ghana, 75 Dead

Over seventy-five dead bodies have been retrieved at the Goil Filling Station at the Nkrumah Circle in Accra that caught fire during Wednesday’s torrential rains.

The Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed that officially 75 people are dead and fears the number could rise as the salvage operation continues.

It is, however, unclear what sparked the inferno at the Service Station behind the GCB Towers and opposite the Vienna City night club.

Meanwhile, people helping the security services in the rescue operation are telling Starr News that about 96 charred bodies have been found.

Starr News’ Asabea Akornor who is at the scene reports that the police are still counting and bringing out the victims from their respective homes around the scene of the outbreak.

The inferno followed hours of heavy downpour in the capital that led to power outages in several communities.

Nigerians Won’t Regret Electing Me, Says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday assured Nigerians that he would do all within his powers to ensure that they would not regret entrusting national responsibility to him by electing him during the March 28 presidential election.

Buhari made the submission in an address he delivered to members of the Nigerian community in Niger during his visit to the country. Adding that his administration was capable of fixing the nation’s problems.

A copy of his speech was made available to journalists in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Buhari told the Nigerian community that his government was just coming on board and was still in
the process of setting out appropriate modalities on how to actualise its agenda of revamping Nigeria as contained in the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress. The reason Nigerians voted for him.

He however urged them to exercise patience because “the task of rebuilding Nigeria is an arduous one.”

He reiterated his position that to ensure accelerated development, his administration would concentrate on challenges of insecurity, near economic collapse, pervasive corruption and power shortages.

Punch reports he said:
“I want to reassure (you) that we are going to tackle these challenges head on. Nigerians will not regret that they have entrusted national responsibility to us. We must not succumb to hopelessness and defeatism. We can fix our problems. However, daunting as the task to surmount these challenges may be, they are by no means insurmountable.
There is now a national consensus that our chosen route to national development is democracy. To achieve our objectives, we must consciously work to improve the democratic system.”
Buhari also assured them that his government would be resolute in ensuring that the country’s regained its enviable position among the comity of nations.

He however said he needed all Nigerians, including those in the Diaspora, to partner his administration in order to realise the dream.
“I want to conclude by urging you to continue to remain law-abiding and to continue to be good ambassadors of the country as we embark on the journey of rebirth, development, evolution and integration,” the President concluded.

Revoke Caitlyn Jenner's Olympic Medals-Thousands sign Online Petition against the star

Change.org
petition has been launched urging the International Olympic Committee to revoke Caitlyn Jenner 's Olympic gold medal.
Caitlyn won the gold medal for the decathlon in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, but now an online petition claims it was "in violation of committee rules".The petition
 titled ,
"Revoke Caitlyn Jenner's Olympic medals"which is already gathering thousands of signatures was started by Jennifer Bradford who in an open letter to the Olympic Committee, writes

"It has recently come to light that gold medalist Bruce Jenner is in fact transgender, and therefore, identifies as a woman.
We congratulate Ms. Jenner on these new developments and wish her the best.
"However, this creates somewhat of a problem as Ms. Jenner (as talented as she is) claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female, and therefore, was in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men’s sports and vice versa."
They go on to suggest the medal be revoked completely....

"Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we must ask whether or not it is proper that Ms. Jenner should retain her olympic records in light of this, as we must now either claim that Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner are two entirely different people (which we know is not true), or that Bruce Jenner was, in fact, a woman participating in a men’s event,"
It is only fair to all involved that women receive their credit as champions of the Decathalon and that the men racing Ms. Jenner are not expected to compete with a superior, streamlined being such as herself."
"We urge Ms. Jenner to support the transgender community by giving up the medals earned by competing against the wrong gender.
"Thank you, and congratulations to Ms. Jenner for her courage! #givebackthegold."
It has sparked outrage from Caitlyn's fans, but despite the shock, has already gained more than 2,700 signatures.
