Osun govt has described as ‘mockery’ the gesture of Sen. Ben Bruce to donate his wardrobe allowance to unpaid workers

The Osun state government has described as ‘mockery’ the gesture of Senator Ben Murray Bruce to donate his wardrobe allowance to the public workers in the state who have not been paid their salaries for more than seven months.

Semiu Okanlawon , the Director Bureau of Communication and Strategy, office of the governor, Rauf Aregbesola in his reaction to the gesture, questioned the choice of the All Progressives Congress, APC-ruled state by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP senator.
Read his reactions below:
My attention has been drawn to a tweet by a member of Upper chamber of the National Assembly Senator Ben Murray Bruce of the Peoples Democratic Party from Bayelsa saying he will not reject the alleged hefty pay for members of the National Assembly but collect it and donate to Osun workers.
It is saddening and tragic that Mr. Murray Bruce whom many had accorded a lot of respect is too early in the day joining the fray of politicisation and trivialising the salary issue affecting more than half of the states of the federation in this ridiculous manner.
While Nigerians are in hot debate over the alleged jumbo pay and the mood of the country Murray Bruce seems to have turned the plight of Nigerian workers to a thing of an entertainment.
Of all the states in the federation who are battling to pay salaries as a result of the precarious economic situation his party the PDP threw Nigeria into why is it that it is Osun he wants to take his pay to? This is certainly playing to the gallery and nothing but a mockery in the faces of Nigerian workers and not only of Osun extraction. It is not only wicked but ungodly to play politics with the suffering of the people.
If the Senator’s conscience tells him his pay is too high especially in the face of the prevailing economic predicament of Nigeria the most honourable thing to do is to lead a protest for reduction and not a self serving philanthropy only in the direction of Osun workers.

How I became Buhari’s Special Adviser – Femi Adesina

Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has revealed how he forged a relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari, which led to him being appointed to the Presidency.
Adesina, who is a respected journalist, was until recently, the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Sun, says he has believed in Buhari as far back when he was a military ruler.
He stated that his unsolicited writing and articles about Buhari over the years, was particularly what made Buhari, reach out to him for the position of Special Adviser when he became President.
Read below excerpts from Adesina’s interview with Punch Newspapers:
“The President is somebody that I have admired for a long time since he was a military ruler. When he was a military ruler, I was already in my third year in the university. So, I can say I knew him and his style and I liked it. I felt sorry when his government was overthrown. So, when he came back into partisan politics in 2003, it was something that was very exciting for me and since then, I have been supporting him. I am a journalist and I write a weekly column. I have been pointing Nigerians in his direction since 2003.
And whenever I wrote anything in his (Buhari’s) support, he would call me on the phone and we would discuss and he would thank me. I remember in 2009 or thereabout when Prof. Tam David-West wrote a book on Buhari and it was to be presented at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. I was the master of ceremony of the occasion so we got to speak and know each other better.
That was the first time I would meet him (Buhari) in person. Thereafter, he ran for President in 2011 and I still wrote in my column that I thought he was the best person to rule Nigeria and bring a change. Whenever I wrote those things, he would call me and he would thank me and we would talk.
So, eventually, in August 2013, I lost my mother and we needed to do her funeral. So, I sent Buhari an invitation card. The service was in Lagos and lo and behold, before the service started, he drove in. It was a pleasant surprise. It was a Christian service and he sat through it. Those who had said that he was a religious bigot were shocked. This was a Muslim man that came for a Christian service and attended the full service and yet they were saying he was a religious bigot.
So, that act cemented our relationship because after the event, I phoned him the next day and thanked him but he said he was the one that should be grateful because he had never given me a kobo and yet I always gave him all the support. He said there were people that could pay me millions of naira for such support but I had decided to pitch my tent with somebody that could not give me anything. So, that cemented our relationship.
You know, in 2011, he said he would not contest the Presidency again but in the run up to the 2015 election, I felt he should still run and I wrote that the fact that he said in 2011 that he would not run again could not be carved in concrete and he could change his mind if he wanted and the rest, they say, is history. He changed his mind, he ran and he won. Significantly, on the night that he was declared the winner, my phone rang around midnight and one of our leaders in the media called and said, ‘Please hold on for Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’. I was shocked and when he spoke to me, he said he appreciated my support throughout the campaigns and now that victory had come his way, he just wanted to say thank you. So, that was how it played out.
How did you get the appointment? Did he call you or were you interviewed?
After he had been declared winner and after he had called me on the telephone, I deliberately stayed away from him for two reasons. The first was because I knew he would be under a lot of pressure. A lot of people would be calling to congratulate him and probably seeking one thing or the other. So, I think from that night, which was March 31, I deliberately stayed away from him because I did not want to add to the pressure that would be on him and secondly, I didn’t want it to be that I was seeking a position in his government.
I am a born again Christian and I want anything that happens or comes my way to be what God has ordained. I don’t push anything; I don’t lobby for anything so I kept my distance from him. But then, people around him kept talking to me and kept telling me that they believed I was the best person to be the spokesman for the incoming President. However, I did not give any commitment for two reasons. The first, as I said earlier, was that I didn’t want to lobby and secondly, I have a job that I enjoy doing: Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of one of the leading newspapers in the country, The Sun, and then I was also the President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors.
Those are high calibre jobs and responsibilities. So, I wasn’t looking for a job but then people around me kept talking to me till eventually, there was some sort of interview but I would not say it was a direct interview but people singled me out to say, ‘Well, if you are invited to serve in government, will you serve?’. My conviction had always been that I would never serve in a government except one headed by Muhammadu Buhari. So, when they singled me out, I told them I didn’t think I wanted to serve in the government but since it is Muhammadu Buhari, I will consider it.
But I also reminded them that I also have a job and I have to consult with my publisher (Orji Uzor Kalu) and I have to seek his blessings. Reluctantly too, my publisher gave his blessings. He told me that they would not know the sacrifice he had made by letting me go but since it is a service to the country, I have his blessings. So, I got back to them and told them yes, that I had sought my publisher’s blessing and the next I heard was the announcement that I had been appointed Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

Too Bad!! Woman Stabs Two-Year-Old Son To Death (See Photo)

The police in Ogun State have arrested a 26-year-old woman, Funmilayo Tijani, who allegedly stabbed her two-year-old son, Emmanuel, to death in the Sango Ota area of the state.

Punch Metro learnt that Funmilayo, a fashion designer, and her husband, identified simply as John, separated two years ago as a result of a quarrel, Punch reports.

It was gathered that Funmilayo had returned to stay in her father’s apartment with her only child after the separation.

On May 27, at about 4pm, Funmilayo’s neighbours on Ogunso Street, Orelope Estate, in the Egan, Sango area, noticed that she held a bloodstained knife and saw Emmanuel in a pool of blood.

The incident was reported at the Sango Police Division. A resident of the area, Akeem Ijaola, said the boy died before he could be rushed to a hospital.

He said, “Funmilayo and her son stayed with her father in a one-room apartment. The boy attended a private school in this area. About 4pm on the fateful day, we noticed that something was going wrong in the apartment.

“When people went near, they saw the boy in a pool of blood. He had been stabbed many times. Funmilayo at that time looked like a mentally-derailed woman. The boy died before anyone could take him to a hospital.

“Although no one could ascertain the cause of her action, Funmilayo is divorced, and the child was born out of wedlock about three years ago.”

The suspect’s father, identified simply as Adebayo, said he was at a loss over Funmilayo’s action.

The 53-year-old indigene of Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, said, “Funmilayo’s mother died about 20 years ago. She grew up staying with me. I married a second wife later, but separated from her years ago. Funmilayo had been staying with me since she separated from her husband.

“John initially refused to accept her pregnancy. But they went for a DNA test, which confirmed him as being responsible for the pregnancy. Thereafter, he took her to a place in Apapa, and they were planning to travel to his hometown in Delta State,. but I refused and asked her to come back home.”

Another neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Funmilayo might have committed the act out of frustration as she was financially and emotionally unstable.

She said, “She tried to borrow money during that week from her boss, but she failed. There are also arguments whether her husband was the father of the boy or her father, who she stayed with.

“Also, her former husband, John, has married another wife who gave birth a few weeks to the incident. I think all these contributed to Funmilayo’s emotional breakdown.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident. He added that the police had deposited the corpse in a morgue.

He said, “The police were at the scene to recover the body of the child. The woman has been acting strangely like someone with an unsound mind. She has been arrested and investigation is ongoing.”

Super Falcons Crash out of World Cup in Canada

Super Falcons campaign at the ongoing 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada came to an abrupt end early hours of yesterday as American golden girl Abby Wambach’s lone strike in the dying seconds of the first half ended the journey for the African champions in Vancouver.

The Nigerian ladies did well to hold their own against the two-time world champions in their last Group D match against USA but the Wambach inspired Yankee ladies deserved their victory and the ticket to the last 16.
The hard-fighting Nigerian girls set about making several efforts to equalise but could not convert their chances as the U.S. team shored up their defenceline.

After the match, Coach Edwin Okon said the game was a good one and wished his opponents well in their subsequent games.
"It was a great experience for us here in Canada. We weren’t focused enough in a few situations today. I wasn’t surprised to see USA make substitutions that were more defensive after our sending off as they knew they were playing a good team. You always have a 50-50 chance in every game. Today USA made the most of one of their chances and we didn’t, even though we had several.”

USA Coach, Jill Ellis, had kind words for the African champions: “Nigeria gave us a good fight, as expected. They’re a dangerous team. I’m happy with the way we played both with and without the ball. We can attack with confidence if we have a good backline. It’s a shame we only scored one goal but we’re very happy to finish top of a difficult group. Investments in women’s football are constantly increasing worldwide, so I think it’s right to talk of an evolution. In terms of tactics, this is the best tournament I’ve ever seen.”
Nigeria ended the preliminary campaign at the bottom on paltry one points from possible nine which ensured the side immediate elimination from the biennial global football showpiece. Having drawn Sweden 3-3 in their opener and lost 2-0 to Australia the defeat to USA ensured that the African champions were home-bound.
Falcons conquerors, the United States of America and runners-up, Australia claimed the group two automatic round of 16 tickets.

White man opens fire in historically black church, kills 9

In what is without a doubt a hate crime, nine people have been killed after a white gunman entered Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina – one of the oldest black churches in America.
Before CNN or any other outlet comes out to tell us about the murderer’s love for kittens or whatever, before they try their very hardest to humanize this criminal, let it clear that our murderer is nothing but a terrorist.
“The only reason someone would walk into a church and shoot people that were praying is out of hate,” said Charleston Mayor Joe Riley. And that is nothing but a fact.
Police and emergency vehicles swarmed several blocks surrounding Henrietta and Calhoun streets, just east of Marion Square. Barricades blocked off several streets to traffic, and police asked nearby residents to leave their homes.
The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. inside Emanuel AME Church at 110 Calhoun St. Police were seen exiting the 19th century church, and their presence extended blocks beyond the site.
Police were still looking for the gunman late Wednesday, and helicopters are hovering above. Police spokesman Charles Francis described the suspect as a 21-year-old white male in a gray sweatshirt/hoodie and jeans with Timberland boots. He has a slender build.

Dangote: I am Ready to Buy Arsenal at ‘Whatever Price’

Business mogul, Aliko Dangote, is insisting that soon he will have “enough time and enough resources” to buy Arsenal Football Club, whatever the price.
Dangote, 58, is Africa’s richest man having amassed a fortune in the region of $18.4 billion (£12.2 billion). He is currently the 67th richest man in the world.
He first spoke of his interest in purchasing the Gunners two years ago and restated it last month when he admitted that one day he hoped to buy the club, adding that he already knew his strategy to take them forward.
That day may arrive sooner than first expected, with Dangote telling the BBC wednesday that the completion of his proposed oil refinery in Nigeria would provide the funds necessary to launch a takeover of the club.
“When we get this refinery on track, I will have enough time and enough resources to pay what they are asking for,” he told the BBC Hausa service.
“There were a couple of us who were rushing to buy, and we thought with the prices then, the people who were interested in selling were trying to go for a kill,” Dangote continued.
“We backtracked, because we were very busy doing other things, especially our industrialisation.”
“They are doing well, but they need another strategic direction,” he added. “They need more direction than the current situation, where they just develop players and sell them.”
Stan Kroenke is Arsenal’s majority shareholder, with the American owning 66.64 per cent of the club’s parent company, Arsenal Holdings Plc.

6 Amazing Ways To Get Rid of Dark Underarms

Dark underarms are said to occur from the skin’s response to exposure to certain elements such as the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Dark coloration of the skin in the underarms region is usually not a disease or medical condition.
Some of the main causes of dark underarms are shaving, regular use of hair removing creams, excessive sweating, poor ventilation of underarms, accumulation of dead skin cells, and use of alcohol-based deodorants and antiperspirants.
You can easily get rid of dark underarms using simple home remedies that are safe, effective, natural and affordable.
1 Potato

Potatoes
The mild acidic property present in potatoes is a great natural bleaching agent. Unlike strong bleaching agents, it will not cause skin irritation.
Simply rub a thin slice of potato on your underarms or grate the potato and apply the juice to the affected area, allow it to dry for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
Use either of these remedies twice daily for better and faster results.
2 Cucumber

Just like potatoes, cucumbers also have natural bleaching properties to help lighten discolored skin.
Simply rub a thin cucumber slice on your underarms or grate a cucumber and apply the juice under your arms. Do this once or twice daily until you are satisfied with the results.
3 Lemon

This is why lemon is used in the treatment of various skin-related problems including dark underarms because it works as natural bleach and a powerful antibacterial and antiseptic agent.
To remove dead skin cells and lighten your underarms, rub a lemon wedge on the skin for a few minutes. Leave the juice on your skin for about 10 minutes and then wash the area thoroughly. For better exfoliation, you can sprinkle a little sugar on the lemon wedge and then use it. Do this a few times a week.

4 Orange Peel

Orange peels can be used to lighten the skin under your arms due to their skin lightening and exfoliating properties.
To get rid of dark underarms using this ingredient, put some orange peels in the sun for a few days until they dry out completely.
Grind the dried peels into powder form.
Mix two teaspoons of powdered orange peels with enough rose water and milk to make a thick paste.
Gently scrub your underarms with the paste and then leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Finally, wash the area with cold water. Then you repeat the process two or three times a week.

5 Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is another good option to get rid of dark underarms. Coconut oil contains vitamin E that can help lighten the underarms. At the same time, it will also work as an effective natural deodorant.
Here, massage the dark underarms with coconut oil; leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
Wash it off with mild soap and lukewarm water and repeat two or three times daily until you achieve the desired results.
6 Milk

Milk
The vitamins and fatty acids present in milk can help minimize underarm darkening. It will help soften the skin and make the skin tone much lighter.
Mix two tablespoons of full fat milk, one tablespoon flour and one teaspoon of pain yogurt to make a thick paste. Apply it on your underarms and leave it on for about 15 minute before you wash it off with cold water. Repeat few times a week on a regular basis.

However, at times dark underarms may also be as a result of a medical condition that is known as acanthosis nigricans which is often associated with insulin resistance, obesity, hormonal disorders, certain medications, and cancer.
If your dark underarms are caused by this condition then you must consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Ramadan fast starts Thursday in several Muslim countries

Saudi Arabia and several other Arab countries have announced that the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan would start on Thursday.
Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, announced on Wednesday that it would be the final day of the lunar month of Sha’aban.
Similar official announcements were made by religious authorities in Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen and Palestine.
Report says the beginning and end of Ramadan depends on the sighting of the new moon.
“During Ramadan, devout Muslims abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from dawn to sunset.
“Ramadan this year coincides with the summer heat in the Middle East where the fast could reach 15 hours a day.
“Fasting is one of Islam’s five pillars, alongside declaration of faith, prayer five times a day, alms-giving, and the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia,” it said.

NBA Finals: Meet Andre Iguodala, the Nigerian who gave James Lebron a run for his money last night

Last night, Golden State Warriors’ Andre Iguodala was named MVP (Most Valuable Player) at the 2015 NBA Finals.
His father is Nigerian and mum American.
His recognition came after his stunning display against Cleveland Cavaliers’ Lebron James.
During the game 6 final which took place in Cleveland, it was Iguodala’s responsibility to guard Lebron James.
And guard him he did!
When Iguodala was on the floor, he made sure Lebron James hardly touched the ball, reducing James’ shots from the field to 38.1%.
Here are seven things you should know about this superstar!
1. He is 31
2. He is worth $28 Million Dollars
3. He has over 200 pairs of shoes. “I have a lot of shoes. I’ve been a big Ferragamo fan for five years now. It’s hard to find shoes in my size. I’m a 15. I have more than 200 pairs of Nikes and between 50 and 75 pairs of dress shoes,” he disclosed during a recent Salvatore Ferragamo fashion show in Italy.
4. He  lives in California with his fiancee, Christina Gutierrez and their  son – Andre Tyler Iguodala II.

6. He was sued by the mother of his daughter in 2009 for child support.
7. He has never played for Team Nigeria. He always chooses Team USA over Team Nigeria at the Olympics.
“They’ve (Nigerian Olympic Committee) been trying to get here for a long time now. They’ve gotten here and they want to prove that they belong. They even had a training camp in Dallas, in the States. It’s interesting. I’ve gotten calls from them a few times about participating. It was always my dream to play for the USA team. That’s where I grew up.I never gave it any serious thought. It didn’t feel right to me. I’ve never been there. I’ve never really had a chance to experience their culture, only from the outside looking in because of my father.” he explained.

Move over, ladies. Meet the 31-year-old guy who’s keeping his virginity as a promise to God

Apparently it’s not just ladies who can stay away from sex till their wedding night. Guys can too!

This 31 year old American, JimDre Westbrook, has not had sex since his birth.
No, he is not gay or impotent!
The 31 year old resident of the famous sin city, Las Vegas, has chosen to remain a virgin till his wedding night and he wants the world to know that he is not ashamed of his decision.
He has also launched WorthTheWaitGuy.com, a personal blog documenting his journey.
Impressive.

In a revealing interview with Essence, hecredited his success thus far to his deeply rooted faith in God and his mum.
“First and foremost it’s a promise I made to God. Everything I do is for Him. It’s what I believe in. This is something I came up with when I was 14 after my mother had ‘the talk’ with me right before I went to high school. She figured that just like any other mom or dad, that her child would eventually engage in sex. I thought that I could wait, and that if I could wait until marriage and share that experience with my wife for the first time, that would be the ultimate gift. It would be better than any diamond that I could give her.”
“I didn’t think I would even make it to being a 30-something virgin. If you’d asked me when I first made the promise to my mom at 14, when you’re 30 or 31, are you still going to be a virgin? I probably would’ve laughed at that, but I know that me being single at this age is part of God’s plan. I’m content with that.”
Maybe there are ladies who’re interested in marrying a virgin guy, here’s an opportunity for you.
He is single and  searching and you don’t have to be a virgin to qualify as his woman.
“I am 100-percent single. My future wife does not have to be a virgin, no. In the world we live in today most of the women I will come in contact with will not be virgins. I’m not the one to judge people or to say she has to be exactly like me.”
JimDre doesn’t think he is different from every other man for being a virgin.
“I feel that I’m worth the wait because God’s worth the wait. I don’t think that I’m any different or more special than anyone else. I’m a human being; I’m not perfect. I’m a good man and I’m a God fearing man. I believe in myself and I’m a family man too.”
And yea, there are other virgin guys like him!
“Since I came out with the news last year, not only other male virgins, but female virgins have also responded to my website, and said, “It’s awesome that you’re doing what you’re doing, and, yes, you’re not alone.” I know that I’m not the last man on earth doing this. It feels good to know that other people believe in the same thing that I believe in. It’s kind of like an informal fraternity. I have brothers and sisters in Christ who are also doing the same thing that I’m doing. That’s a pretty awesome thing to have to keep me doing.”
Before you go judging him for seeing sex a sin,
“My message isn’t to say, “We all need to stop having sex or we need to do this or that.” I want people to look themselves in the mirror and have some crucial conversations and figure out what truly makes them happy.”
While he is currently on a mission to encourage men and women to love who they are and live their lives accordingly, he admits he can’t wait to have sex with his wife.
“I’m waiting to experience sex with my future wife.”

Buhari to look into $9.3m arms money seized by South Africa

The Federal Government will demand for the release of the $9.3m weapon money seized from Nigerian agents by the South African authorities on September 5, 2014.

President Muhammadu Buhari revealed this on Monday, June 15, while addressing Nigerians in South Africa at the Nigeran Consulate in Johannesburg.

Buhari also promised to seek a review of the cases of Nigerians currently in South African prisons and those pending in courts when President Jacob Zuma visits Nigeria.
“I’m told there are 83 Nigerians in prisons here(South Africa);   I don’t know what they have done but I spoke to the President of South Africa this(Monday) afternoon.
“He(Zuma) wants to come to Nigeria. There are issues he knows which he wants to talk about. I will certainly talk to him; I hope our ambassador will send a comprehensive report about the court cases and about those who lost properties during the xenophobic attacks recently.
“And at that time, I will attempt to ask him about our $9.3m which was not correctly transferred.”

Age Is No Longer On My Side, President Buhari Admits

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians not to expect too much from him because of his old age.
Buhari, 72 who was a military governor at 33 and Head of State   at the age of 40, said he would have loved being a President when he was at a younger age .

He stated this while addressing  Nigerians resident in South Africa on Monday after taking part in the 25th assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union   in Johannesburg.

He said, “I wish I became Head of State when I was a governor, just a few years as a young man. Now at 72, there is a limit to what I can do.”
Despite his advancement in age however, Buhari gave assurance that his administration would make a difference.

Despite his advancement in age however, Buhari gave assurance that his administration would make a difference.

He recalled that he was in the war front for 30 months during the civil war, adding that like any other Nigerian, he lost relatives and loyal people to the war.

Buhari said considering the fact that   two million Nigerians died during the war, nobody should come forward to talk about a breakup of the country.
He stressed that Nigeria would remain one country since God had given him another opportunity to reorganise its affairs.

Wickedness! Two cooks from Benin Republic arrested for poisoning their employers’ meal

Victor Hounkpe and David Amusu poisoned their employers’ meal at their Lekki residence, Lagos, to make everybody fall asleep so that valuables in the house could be easily stolen. But unfortunately, it made all members of the house become
unconscious and hospitalized. In the evening of April 22, Hounkpe, who had stayed for only a month in the house, prepared a vegetable soup for the family.
Minutes after eating it, the husband, Nwogu Chinaka developed a severe stomach ache and collapsed, while his wife, Omowunmi, rushed him to a nearby hospital. She however, also became unconscious and collapsed at the gate of the hospital. 2 security guards in the compound were brought to the hospital later.
Hounkpe and Amusu fled from the house during the incident but were later arrested. In his confession, Hounkpe said: “I came to Nigeria in 2007. I have always worked as a cook in Lagos. David was the agent who brought me to the couples’ house. He was the one who gave me the substance to put inside the soup. He told me the substance was a sleeping pill. The plan was that everyone would fall asleep. They wanted to steal gold and other valuables.
I put the substance inside the vegetable soup. The couple did not offend us. They were to pay me N50k monthly. We just wanted them to sleep off. I ran to the Ogudu area after the incident to pick up another job. That was where I was arrested.” In his own case, Amusu said: “I was a former cook in the house.
I was the one who brought Hounkpe. On the fateful day, when he finished cooking the soup, he called me to say the job had been done. But then, we learnt that the couple was rushed to a hospital after falling unconscious. So, we fled the area.” The couple has now been flown abroad for treatment
