UNICAL Professor suspended over alleged rape of student

The Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, who was accused of raping a 20-year-old 400-level student in his office, was suspended on Thursday.
Professor Ndifon was briefly arrested and detained by the police, and later released on Wednesday before he was suspended yesterday evening by the panel set up to investigate him.
The mother of the victim, Irene Akpan, alleged that the incident happened between 3 and 5pm on August 29 at the dean’s private office on the top floor of the faculty building.
According to the lady, Professor Ndifon forcibly had sex with her daughter after a fierce struggle.
The school authorities confirmed receipt of complaints from the victim, while the police also affirmed it but was quick to add that the matter was undergoing thorough investigation.

Nigerian Governors Reject Death Penalty For Looters

According Punch, some of their correspondents reached out to some State Governors to hear their views on the suggestion of the Labour Union that any Government official found guilty of corruption should be killed and their responses aren’t shocking anyway. Most of them said it is not right to take a life, but life imprisonment will be a better option. Hear Amosun's view, Fayose, Wike, Aregbesola, Mimiko, and a lot of other Governors too all after the cut.

Ogun State Governor, Amosun:

“Everybody knows President Muhammadu Buhari is transparent and meants well for the nation and would never want to hear anything about corruption.

“Even under 100 days in office, electricity is improving. People know that if you try it you are gone. I always say this, whether you are a governor, permanent secretary or labour leader, you cannot be corrupt under a leader that is not corrupt, because you will be punished.

“Unfortunately as a governor, I cannot be saying that capital punishment should be meted out to corrupt public officials. Because I cannot say that, that is why I will say that anybody that is found wanting, whether you are governor or any other public officer should be jailed for life.”

According to the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, who spoke through the Director of Press Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, says;

“In all his discussions, Lalong has never mentioned death sentence. He has always preferred life imprisonment to taking human life because to him life is sacred.”

Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who reacted through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said jail sentence was better and capable of reforming thieves.

“In countries where death penalty was introduced, it has not stopped looting. In advanced countries like US, jail sentence is the penalty. What we need is proper moral education to change orientation of the people. Jail sentence is better; it can reform,” he told one of our correspondents in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Rivers State Governor, Wike Nyeson through his special adviser on media, Opunabo Inko-Tariah said;

“Nigerians have a role to play by deriding looters and not to praise them for their fiscal irresponsibility. There should be a strong punitive measure to discourage looting because of its domino effects. When a treasury is looted, there won’t be money for the provision of necessities such as hospitals, roads, etc.

“Maybe because it happened in Ghana and the economy improved, the labour organisations want it in Nigeria. But that was a military regime and Jerry Rawlings was a military man. However, the extant laws on looting need serious and urgent review, even if the death penalty is discouraged.”

Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State through his information commissioner, Kayode Akinmade said;

“We are not under a military rule; this is democracy and we have constitution that we follow. If it is put in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, irrespective of whether you are a governor or not, so be it. If that is what Nigerians want, it is okay.

“Everybody is against corruption, but there is a process of making law. Thank God we have a National Assembly and the state assemblies who are representative of the people. If such bill could be sent to the national and state assemblies and be passed into law, it must become a law.

“If the process is followed and it is the wish of Nigerians that looters be killed, why not? Let it become a law. It is a fact that Nigerians are not happy with this corruption tag, which has slowed down our economic development but if we have a law that will bring about capital punishment for the looters, it is okay.”

While Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State declined comment on whether looters should be sentenced to death or not.

In Enugu State the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr. Louis Amoke, said he would need to consult his principal, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to get his position on the matter.

“I will have to get in touch with him to know his position on the matter, it is very sensitive and I will not talk without finding out from him,” Amoke said.

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Al-Makura, however, said he supported that capital punishment be meted out to corrupt public office holders.

“I really agree with the NLC over call for capital punishment for any public office holder who is found guilty of looting public funds,” he said.

John Gibson, A popular US pastor commits suicide after adultery website exposes him

A popular United States pastor has committed suicide six days after his name was exposed by hackers of the Ashley Madison adultery website.
Canadian police has said that at least two suicides were linked to the leak of 32 million customer profiles from the Canada-based site last month.
Christi Gibson discovered her husband’s body — and a suicide note which chronicled his demons and his shame at being exposed — in their New Orleans home on August 24.

“He talked about depression. He talked about having his name on there, and he said he was just very, very sorry,”Gibson told CNN on Wednesday.
“Nothing is worth the loss of a father and a husband and a friend. It just didn’t merit it. It didn’t merit it at all.”
Gibson said her husband, who had struggled with depression and addiction in the past, was worried that he would
lose his job.
“It wasn’t so bad that we wouldn’t have forgiven it, and so many people have said that to us, but for John, it carried such a shame,” she told CNN.
“What we know about him is that he poured his life into other people, and he offered grace and mercy and forgiveness to everyone else, but somehow he couldn’t extend that to himself.”

Sex and masturbation can hamper Ebola eradication efforts – WHO

The World Health Organization, WHO, has advised all male survivors of Ebola to be tested three months after the onset of symptoms and then monthly until they know they have no risk of passing on the virus through their semen.
Bruce Aylward, Head of the WHO’s Ebola Response, said on Thursday in Geneva that isolated flare-ups of Ebola may point to a higher risk of transmission via the semen of male survivors than previously thought.
“It’s not the sex that is dangerous; it’s the semen that is dangerous. How people actually get exposed, in soiled linens or whatever, is not clear.
“Transmission through semen may explain why a few cases continue to occur even though the outbreak has been almost completely eradicated by an intense international effort, recently bolstered by the deployment of a trial vaccine in Guinea and Sierra Leone,’’ he said.
Aylward said the latest flare-up, in a village on the northern border of Sierra Leone, followed the death of a 67-year-old woman late last month, 50 days after the previous confirmed case in the region.
He said transmission chains were considered to have been broken after 42 days with no new infections.
However, Aylward said that sexual transmission was “obviously not a huge risk, because if it were we would have seen a lot more in the areas that were hardest hit at the beginning of this outbreak.”

All You Need To Know About The SoundcityTv And Psquare Beef…Soundcity releases statement

Yesterday, a P-Square fan tweeted atPeter Okoye asking why the duo’s music videos were not being aired onSoundcity TV, in response to the question, Peter tweeted back telling the fan, “Don’t waste your time; they will not play our songs. He tweeted another saying, “Ignore that channel please and keep watching us on great reliable channels and other terrestrial channels like Trace TV, Mtvbase, Hip TV and Afropop.“Thanks for the love,” Peter added.
See his tweets below:
P-Square-OnoBello (2)P-Square-OnoBello (3)P-Square-OnoBello (4)
In response to Peter’s tweets the TV station has released a statement saying that despite its support for the duo, they turned down their invitation for a concert, the reason Soundcity has resolved to suspend playing their videos, saying their partnership with the duo was not mutual, but one-sided.

Here’s the statement below:
“Dear fans, we see your complaints about the absence of our videos on @SOUNDCITYtv, just to clear the air, they refused to play us.
While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for P-Square was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided.
We have assisted the P-Square brand, toured with them over Africa at our expense, gave them ad-spots for their events/ projects, gave them prime time slots for their videos and included them in our array of Programmes /Programming.
For 10 Years, Soundcitytv has been a huge supporter of P-Square and the P-Square brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on Soundcitytv than any other music channel.
We decided to stop ‘doing anything’ with/for P-Square, since our 10 years of supporting the group meant nothing to them.
Viewers sometimes complain about the dominance of P-Square videos on the channel & charts. We were a huge supporter and gave everything to their works.
SoundcityTV will keep airing works of the best and upcoming Nigerian artistes, and also, the best #African artistes to the world, especially nurturing their talents from inception till they become huge megastars and international superstars.
Soundcitytv reserves the right to air which ever music videos we please on our cable/satellite or terrestrial platforms.”
Thanks.

Private detective hired to follow man's wife finds her having sex with his OWN teenage son(Photos)

A husband who hired a private detective to follow his wife found out she was having sex with the investigator's own teenage son.

Dance teacher Amber Telford, 33,romped with the 17-year-old student in her studio as well as in her car and at her mum's house.

But the illicit affair was uncovered when the private detective hired by her estranged husband caught the pair together at the dance studio.

And the case took an even stranger turn when it emerged the boy was the PI's son.

The pair were said to have been found under a blanket with their clothes 'strewn all over the floor'.
Amber Telford

Police in Taylorsville, Utah, arrested Telford and she has now been jailed for 30 days after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

A court document stated the pair began flirting together before the relationship developed as she bought him clothes and paid for him to go to Disneyland for a dance competition.

It said: "She started by flirting with (the teen) and eventually began a sexual relationship with him that occurred at her home, her mother's home and also in a vehicle belonging to Amber."

The report also claims Telford would pick the boy up for in the middle of the night and drive him to various locations for sex.

The court also ordered her to perform 150 hours of community service, complete probation and register as a sex offender.

Fire kills family of seven in Lagos apartment after neigbours refused to help(Photos)

SEVEN members of a family of eight were killed on Tuesday night when fire razed their self-contain apartment in Surulere, Lagos Mainland.
The fire was caused by candlelight while the family was asleep.
The lone survivor Chidinma (8) is lying critically ill in hospital.
The dead are Kelechi Onoja, 28, his wife, Nkiru, 18, two children Favour, 2 and her three-week-old brother. Others are the late Onoja’s mother-in-law Mrs Okezie and her visiting two relatives.
A neighbour, Uzor Alajemba, said he heard shouts of “help!” “help!!” “help!!!” from the apartment, adding that when he came out, smoke had filled the whole compound.
He said: “I brought my family out of the house and called neighbours who alerted the fire fighters. I don’t how it happened. I just rescued my family.”
Another resident, Tony Anslem said other tenants didn’t raise the alarm on time, noting that by the time fire fighters arrived, it was too late to rescue them.
“We heard noise but we couldn’t rescue them because there was a burglar-proof at the entrance of the house. Nkiru’s mother was found burnt at the entrance of the door while trying to escape and the others were found on a mattress inside the room,” he said.
The late Onoja’s sister, Obioma, in tears, said: “I live in Onipanu and I got the information this morning (yesterday), I was still happy that the house was burnt and not that they died until I got here. I don’t know what to do ooo! I am in shock. He is my younger brother. See the way my brother died.”
Christiana Faleti, a resident, who took Chidinma to the hospital said: “Even before I came out, neighbours were busy pouring water from the ceiling because no one could access the entrance because of the burglar-proof. We rescued the girl from the toilet  after the fire was put out; a fire service official heard someone cough and sadly we saw a burnt little girl almost lifeless. The Lagos State Ambulance came to carry her and we took her to Gbagada General Hospital, around 3am, but on getting there, she wasn’t admitted because we had no money. So we came back home and neighbours gathered almost N50, 000 for her. I was scared. Her face has roasted. As a mother, I feel her pains.”
The late Mrs Onoja’s brother, Michael Okezie, said their mother was to return to the village yesterday after babysitting her grandchild for a month.
“Kelechi is my sister’s husband and we hail from Enugu State. He sells curtain materials on Lagos Island. I am sad. Why is it only their building that burnt? Why did the neighbours run away? These are questions I haven’t found answers to. Our mother went to the market on Tuesday to buy things for yesterday’s journey. We planned to see the baby this Sunday. There is more to this. Why didn’t they rescue them? Why?” he wondered in tears.
Baale of Surulere, Kareem Awoyemi, said he learnt the tenants were not in good terms with the Onojas even before the incident.
“They were not in talking terms with their neighbours; does that mean they shouldn’t rescue them. None of them came out. All of them ran away. I was informed around 3am that they needed money to treat the survivor, which I contributed. The building is over 23 years and we have never had such incident before. It is painful,” Awoyemi said.
Another resident Ejike Eke-Opara said: “The fire was caused by candlelight because their light was disconnected few days ago because they couldn’t afford the prepaid meter. They were the only ones without light and they have been using candle. The occupants of this compound are terrible. Is it because they weren’t in good terms with them that they couldn’t try their best to save them? It didn’t affect the two buildings beside them. This is very strange.”
A security guard, Desmond Mazeli, pleaded with government to take over the building because it was marked two months ago by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He said since the landlord’s death, the building has been used for all sort of things, including drug trafficking.
The bodies have been deposited in a morgue.
Lagos State Fire Service Director Razak Fadipe appealed to people to desist from using candle in their homes, as it could be very dangerous.

Customs destroy 1,583 cartons of frozen chicken

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday vowed to keep up the fight against smuggling of frozen poultry products, especially around Yekeme area, near Badagry.
The Comptroller in charge of the command, Yusuf Umar, said this while destroying 1,583 cartons of smuggled poultry products in Lagos.
He said the command had seized and destroyed 6,668 cartons of poultry products from July 7 to date when “Operation Hawk Descend” was established to fight the smuggling of the products.
Mr. Umar said Customs would work to ensure that revenue leakages were plugged, just as it would work to protect the nation’s economy through its services.
He warned that smugglers must stop forthwith or be ready to face the wrath of the law.
“Those who engage in this act of smuggling of poultry products should desist, henceforth, because there is no hiding place for them as far as we are concerned.
“They should know by now that the customs is working with a very much improved intelligence reports and will always track them down.
“But then, we also want them to know that the danger of their act is more than they think, considering the effect on the economy.
“We should proudly grow and sustain our own poultry industry that can also create a lot of jobs for people,” he said.

Caitlyn Jenner Reveals Fear Of Being Sent To A Male Prison Over Her Fatal Car Crash

Caitlyn Jenner is hoping she doesn’t have to do jail time in a male prison.

The transgender reality TV star is being investigated over a fatal car crash, and faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
The authorities are reportedly considering misdemeanor manslaughter charges, and Jenner is terrified of jail.
“That is the worst-case scenario … It is an enormous problem that they would put trans women in a men’s county jail,” Jenner, 65, told NBC in an interview.
The patriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has said she doesn’t remember much of the incident.
“All I needed was probably a half a second of time, I almost got stopped but couldn’t quite get it stopped,” she said.

Blac Chyna Says Kylie Jenner Will Soon Drop Tyga Like A Bad Habit

Blac Chyna has slammed Tyga with yet another shade regarding his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.
The mother-of-one believes this time that Tyga doesn’t have enough money to support his lavish lifestyle and even Kylie Jenner’s flashy birthday Ferrari was bought on credit.
She also thinks that Kylie will dump him once he goes broke.
A source told HollywoodLife that: “Blac knows Kylie’s Ferrari isn’t paid for in full. Tyga doesn’t have the kind of cash needed to pay for that thing up front.”
She’s convinced that the car will either be repossessed or even worse, Kylie will have to pay for it herself. Tyga is living a life he can’t afford and sooner or later Blac knows he will crumble under his debt. And when he does, Kylie will drop him like a bad habit.’ Remember that Kylie asked her mother, Kris Jenner to manage Tyga, which means the momager will be looking at his bank accounts, and Blac Chyna is just adding more fuel to Tyga’s drama,” the source said.

We’ll never hang Buhari’s portrait in our offices –PDP

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has refused to recognise Muhammadu Buhari, as President by failing to hang his official portrait at the party’s national secretariat.

Buhari’s official portrait is not hung at any of the offices in the PDP’s Wadata House national secretariat, located at Zone 5, Abuja, Punch reports.
Despite the fact that the party has removed the portrait of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, it has vowed to never put Buhari’s portraits on its walls.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, revealed to Punch that APC did not hang the portrait of Jonthan in its offices before his defeat in the presidential election.
“We will never hang his portrait in this office, because President Buhari is not known to our party. He is not a leader of our party and therefore we will never put his portrait here. We are a political party, very partisan and therefore, we are not going to hide that.”
“Can you find out if the APC had the portrait of former President Jonathan in their office before he was defeated? That is just it.”

Femi Fani Kayode Says That Nigeria Is Built On A Satanic Foundation

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says Nigeria has refused to develop because it was built on a ‘satanic’ foundation.
The former minister said this in a Facebook post titled, ‘Lord Lugard’s Magic and Flora Shaw’s Spell.’

Fani-Kayode, who also served as the Minister of Tourism under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said the manner with which Nigeria was created in 1914 was the reason the country was still struggling.

He said both Lord Fredrick Lugard, who was the first Governor-General of Nigeria; and his wife, Flora Shaw (later Flora Lugard), who gave Nigeria its name, were worshippers of Satan.
Fani-Kayode said, “It is generally agreed though not commonly admitted that both Lugard and Flora Shaw wereLuciferians who practised the black arts and all manner of satanic rituals.
“He (Lugard) was a ‘High Priest of the Freemasons’ whilst they were both avid followers of Aleister Crowley, the leading satanist of his day and the self-styled ‘world’s most wicked man.’”
“This explains a lot. It also explains why Shaw gave us the name Nigeria – a name which has questionable roots. Anyone that doubts this should consider the literal translation of Nigeria into Latin: it means “the area of darkness” and there is a deep spiritual and mystical reason why she gave us that name.
“It comes with a lot of baggage because not much good can come out of an area of darkness.”

Fani-Kayode, who was the spokesperson for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation, said most of the African countries that were colonised by Britain had since changed their names.
He said only Sudan and Nigeria refused to change their names and that was why they were still struggling.

He added, “Most of the former British colonies changed their names after independence for similar reasons but because most of our leaders in Nigeria were not aware of these matters, they refused to do so.
“Lugard and Shaw were an unlikely couple who had no children. What held them together was more spiritual and mystical than anything else and Nigeria and Sudan are their joint legacy to the world.

“Sadly, both countries are having major challenges today. Sudan has broken into two after a protracted and bitter civil war while Nigeria is experiencing serious regional, ethnic and religious tensions. It is clear that our nation needs a good deal of prayers. May God deliver us from Lord Lugard’s magic and his beautiful wife’s spell.”

Fani-Kayode said Nigeria was created such that the North could rule forever while the resources of the South would continually be exploited.
The former minister said it was a miracle that Nigeria had only witnessed one civil war since it gained independence in 1960.

He argued that the only thing that had kept Nigeria united was the oil in the Niger Delta as well as the strength, patience and collective will of the people.
He said, “This was his (Lugard’s) vision: a northern Nigeria that was essentially the ‘head of the household’ and that would remain in control of all the powers and resources of the state and a southern Nigeria that would play the role of a passive and subservient wife whose destiny it was to remain in perpetual subjugation and bondage.

“The truth is that the British colonialists were masters of divide and rule. The amalgamation of the southern and northern protectorates was a Greek gift which was designed to fail and to crumble at the appropriate time. Nigerians have done well to have held it together for so long and the fact that we have only experienced one civil war is miraculous.”

“Comot joo” – Obasanjo tells journalists as he meets with Buhari behind closed doors(Photos)

President Buhari and former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Tuesday, had a close door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting between the duo lasted for about one hour at the President’s office.
However, Obasanjo refused to speak to journalists when Buhari accompaigned him to his vehicle at 4:17pm.
In his usual hilarious manner, the Ota farmer simply told journalists that approached him: “comot joo.”

Queen Elizabeth shapes UK's history, becomes longest-reigning monarch

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, who ascended the throne aged just 25 as her exhausted country struggled to recover from the ravages of World War II, makes history as she becomes the UK’s longest-reigning monarch.
At about 5:30pm (1630 GMT) on Wednesday, Elizabeth, 89, who is also the nation’s oldest ever monarch, will surpass the 63 years, 7 months, 2 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes that her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria spent on the throne.
British Prime Minister David Cameron led the tributes to the queen.
“Over the last 63 years, Her Majesty has been a rock of stability in a world of constant change and her selfless sense of service and duty has earned admiration not only in Britain, but right across the globe,” Cameron said.
“It is only right that today we should celebrate her extraordinary record, as well as the grace and dignity with which she serves our country.”
Those close to the queen say she is fairly blase about the milestone, believing it represents little more than the fact that she has lived for a long time.
“It’s business as usual as far as she is concerned,” said one senior aide.
Initially she did not even intend to mark the event publicly, but she has bowed to public pressure and will now undertake an official engagement in Scotland, where she traditionally spends her summer holiday.
Along with her husband Prince Philip, who has been at her side throughout her reign, she will take a journey on a steam locomotive to mark the opening of the longest domestic railway to be built in Britain for more than 100 years.
As a young princess, Elizabeth had not expected to become monarch as her father George VI only took the crown when his elder brother Edward VIII abdicated the throne in 1936 to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson.

Pastor rapes 16 year old girl during 3-day deliverance prayer

A pastor, Abraham Sunday, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl, in Adalemo Estate, in the Toll Gate area, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

This happened last Wednesday, September 2.
Apparently the girl who was ill at the time, had been taken by the pastor to a house in Adalemo Estate on August 28 for deliverance prayer when the incident occurred.
Her mother who wasn’t aware of the session, immediately became worried when she couldn’t place her daughter’s whereabouts.
The matter was said to have been reported to the police by the landlord of the house where Sunday allegedly camped the teenager to rape her.
A police officer revealed that the girl was then taken to a hospital, where a medical test confirmed that she had been raped. The pastor was thereafter arrested.
He said, “The pastor was like a foster father to the girl. She was ill and had gone to a hospital in the area. While returning from the hospital, she boarded the same bus with the pastor, who said he would take her to a place for prayers.
“Since the suspect was a family friend, she did not doubt him. So, they went to the pastor’s apartment, where he camped and raped her for three days. The victim’s mother did not even know about the deliverance prayer.
“On Monday, the landlord and some neighbours got suspicious of the pastor’s arrangement with the teenager and they alerted a non-governmental organisation in the area, which in turn invited the police. The girl was rescued and rushed to a hospital, where a medical test confirmed rape. The suspect was arrested immediately.”
