Cosmopolitan Magazine Features 3 Chibok Girls Who Fled Boko Haram Captivity (Photos)

Mercy, Sarah, and Deborah are some of the Chibok Girls who escaped from Boko Haram captivity last year. They now live in a small town in Oregun, USA. The three girls, another one named Grace who didn’t want to be photographed for the feature are quietly finishing their education at the Canyonville Christian Academy, a boarding school with students from more than a dozen countries.

The girls said arriving in the US seemed like they had arrived in Mars as they had grown up in deeply poor, rural villages with no Internet access and in some cases a sole landline phone for the entire village. In Oregon, everything was new: winter weather, puffy coats, remote controls, trampolines, yogurt-covered pretzels, cheerleaders, ice skating, karaoke. They spoke only a little English.
The first girl to arrive, Mercy, came this past November. School president Doug Wead recalls Mercy’s first-ever encounter with an escalator. As she stepped onto the moving staircase at the airport, she panicked and dropped her bag. That night, at the hotel, she took a bath and stayed there for hours. “Later, my wife checked in on her, and she was asleep on the bed, lying on top of the fluffy comforter,” says Wead. “Her coat was on, fully zipped.”
The girls came to Canyonville with the help of a nonprofit group in Virginia, the Jubilee Campaign, and activists from Nigeria. The girls, all of whom are Christian, live in constant uncertainty, unsure whether relatives are alive or dead, whether their homes have been burned. They keep in touch with loved ones by phone when possible amid the chaos.
In a campus lounge overlooking a creek and a bridge, Grace arrives for her interview on a Wednesday afternoon. Wearing skinny jeans and pink flip-flops, she looks like a typical American student, except for the deep anxiety on her face. Her counselor, Debbie Horton, is there with me. The Chibok girls, all 18 years old, have been meeting with the counselor since their arrival. Grace came in December with classmates Sarah and Deborah, a few weeks after Mercy.Cosmopolitan is withholding their last names for safety. Grace recently lost her brother, two uncles, and a cousin, all killed by Boko Haram.

14-year-old flees home after dad raped her twice

The Lagos state police command has arrested a 49 year old plank seller and father, Adeboye Adesola (pictured right) for allegedly having sex with his 14 year old daughter (pictured left) who is in SS1.

The girl said she moved in with her father and his new wife in a one-room apartment in Ikorodu after she lost her mother. According to Daily Independent, the girl alleged that he first had sex with her in November 2014 and tried it again in March 2015 immediately after he separated from her stepmother. He slept with her claiming he wanted to see if she was still a virgin.

After the second encounter, she ran away from home and  took refuge in a church where she told a pastor what her father had done to her. The pastor and other church leaders reported the case at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos on May 20th. Her father was arrested on May 21st.
“My mother died when I was three years old. We were six in number living in the room, my father, his new wife, my younger brother and my two half sisters. My mom died in 2007. She gave birth to me and my brother. It all started in 2014. He used to check my private part to see if I had started menstruating or having sex with men. I was sleeping in the midnight, he removed my wrapper. By then, my step mother had packed out of his house because she was accused of dating other men in the compound. He inserted his finger in my private part and asked me if I had started menstruation, I said no. He asked if I have had sex before and I said no. He said he would use his penis to test it. He climbed on me, I wanted to scream, but he held my mouth. I bled from that night till the following day. I felt very bad but he warned me that nobody must hear what he did to me. He repeated it again on 5th March, 2015. He did it between 9pm and 10pm. He used condom in the first one. This time, he asked me to remove my clothe and lie on the bed. It was a Thursday night, I could not bear it anymore. So the following day, I packed my things and left the house. I dropped a note that he should not look for me. I moved to a nearby church and stayed there. My uncle took me to the church and the members brought me to the police station after I told them what my dad did to me.”the girl said.
When interrogated, her father blamed the devil for his action
"The day I was brought here (police station), I was thoroughly beaten by members of the O’odua People’s Congress (OPC) who forced me to confess that I had canal knowledge of my daughter. But here in the police station, nobody beat me. I told the Oga that it was devil’s work. Oga, I’m sorry, pity me. I’m from poor family. I am the only one taking care of them. Forgive me for whatever happened, I did not know what happened.”

Father allegedly tortures 4-year old son, abandons him at Yaba bus station (PHOTOS)

One Sikiru Mustapha has been arrested for brutalizing his four-year-old son, Lekan, and abandoning him at a bus station in the Iwaya area of Yaba.
Punch newspaper reports that the boy was found by a neighbour at the bus station with scars of the torture on his body.

“One of the residents of this area found him and took him to an NGO. He was then taken to the Sabo Police Division, and the police arrested the father.

Pastor Tunde Bakare explains why he fainted, plus his dream about a giant who ‘wore an Igbo attire’

Latter Rain Assembly head pastor Tunde Bakare collapsed last month while delivering a lecture in Lagos and was rushed to the Reddington Hospital.

After weeks of keeping mum, Bakare has now addressed the issue. The pastor was preaching last Sunday in his church and he said he collapsed that time out of exhaustion — too much work and too much pressure.

He said he travelled a lot between Lagos, Abuja, London, and Atlanta, and he ignored the warning signs.

He also talked about a premonition he had during a dream.
He said: “One afternoon I had a dream. It was an unusual dream. I saw a ring on my little finger. I don’t wear two rings, I only wear one. I looked up and coming from my left side was an unusual giant I’d never seen before. It was unusually humongous and wore an Igbo attire. I didn’t know its tribe. It was a giant and it was coming towards me. All that I knew to do was raise the ring up. As soon as I raised it, it laughed and went on. I went to the crowd addressed the crowd and woke up.”
He however, could not explain what the giant could mean or why it wore Igbo attire.
