Xenophobia: 6,000 Nigerians will lose their jobs if we leave this country – MTN

Telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria has stated that if they are forced to shut down, over 6,000 Nigerians will be rendered jobless.

This was made known by the company’s Head of Communications, Mr Wale Goodluck.

He was reacting to protests by groups in Edo state and Abuja yesterday that the telecommunications offices in Nigeria will be shut and their installations attacked if the xenophobic attacks in South Africa continue.

According to him, there are only 12 expatriates working for the company in Nigeria compared to a workforce of 6,000 Nigerians.
“So if people go ahead with their threats to attack our facilities, what that means is that we may be forced to close down the business in Nigeria and about 6,000 Nigerians that make up 99% of our workforce will be unemployed.
“Then, when you look at our support chain, we have about 500,000 Nigerians gainfully employed. So, boycotting our services simply means destroying so many other Nigerian businesses and making over 500,000 other Nigerians to lose their jobs. This business supports a lot of businesses across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Many of the businesses that are affiliated to South Africa are in the retail space, supporting the growth of Nigeria and employing so many Nigerians. We see no revenge of Xenophobia and we commend the role the Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa has played; at least there has been no fatality on the part of any Nigerian,” he said.

Tuesday's ruling is the first against the ousted leader, who stands trials over charges of jailbreak, ordering the killing of protesters, spying and insulting the judiciary.
The court has also sentenced 12 Muslim Brotherhood leaders to 20 years in prison, while two others received 10-year imprisonment terms in the same case.

Many figures of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, the power base of Morsi, received death and imprisonment sentences in violence-related cases.

I have no regrets for abusing Buhari – Doyin Okupe

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, on Monday said he has no regrets for attacking President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari, during the electioneering period.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Mr. Okupe said he would continue to stand by his action during the period because he did so to promote his principal, President Goodluck Jonathan and put down his challenger, Mr. Buhari.

Read Mr. Okupe’s full statement below.
These are very interesting times in our nation. An election has come and gone. A victor has emerged and the loser has conceded. Yet some of our folks are behaving as if we have just gone through a war between two hostile nations.
APC agents all over the place are unrelenting in their tirades of abuses, insults and lies against President Jonathan, his aides and supporters.
It is shameful that we are still saddled with denying falsehood and fabrications in the social media and even hitherto highly respected newspapers.
– Missing $20b found in an account in Zenith
– President Jonathan returns tons of dollars to federation accounts.
– N2trillion spent on elections by President Jonathan.
– Okupe says Chibok girls will not be found.
How many lies, deliberate falsehood and evil propaganda, outright curses and attacks must we suffer just because we lost an election in which we were never disgraced? Buhari polled 15m(56%) while Jonathan scored 12m (46%). Those who talk to us disparagingly should respect the sentiments of the 12 million who voted for Jonathan.
Of course, we have our reservations about the results but we will pass on that for now. We have lost this election but this is not and can never be a crime. We are all Nigerians and haven lost does not make us less. We should be allowed to bow out peacefully and constitutionally on the 29th of May.
Yes I said Buhari was not electable. I also said his victory will not happen. I said and still insist that buhari has no WASC certificate. I said a lot of things to promote my candidate and many things to put his opponent down. I have no regrets for any of the statements I made. Lai Mohammed said worse. This is the nature of politics.
For any one who cares to listen. We will be back.  Period.

This is what you must do, if you want to succeed – Bakare has a counsel for Buhari

Pastor Tunde Bakare, has advised the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to make certain that he appoints technocrats as ministers if indeed , he wants to succeed.

The founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, who was Buhari’s running mate during the 2011 presidential election, made the conments at the Wema Bank 70th commemorative lecture in Lagos on Monday, April 20.

At the event tagged; “Why Nations Succeed,” Bakare stated that issues such as zoning and religion must be disregarded if the right people will emerge.

He said, “In a few weeks’ time after the handover, I pray that the North, which has been out of power for a while, will not say now ‘it is our turn’. And whether the person fits the role or not, they put again, round pegs in square holes and forget the real issues and begin to attract the same incompetent people to run our affairs.
“What is it that is wrong with our nation that the best, the most competent, the fittest and people with capacity are not the ones running our affairs?”
“It is not difficult to put things in order. If we have the mind to do it and you have the right people to occupy these offices like my sister Oby and like el-Rufai did in Abuja, those are the people we need to attract regardless of their religion, regardless of their gender, regardless of what part of the country they come from.”

"I have just returned from visiting my granddaughter Bobbi Kristina in the hospital and while she is no longer in a medically induced coma she has a tracheotomy and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive."

Kanye Covers Paper Mag; Discusses The American Dream, Illuminati

Kanye West is Paper Mag’s latest cover boy in the issue entitled “American Dream”

The rapper who was recently christened one of the world’s “100 Most Influential People,” was asked by Paper Magazine to share his interpretation of the “American Dream.”
“I know people want to talk about the American Dream, but my dream is a world dream. It’s a world in which everyone’s main goal would be to help each other. The first thing I told my team on New Year’s Day was, ‘You know, people say bad news travels fast, but this year let’s make good news travel faster.'”

And this is what he had to say about illuminati;
“If there was actually an Illuminati, it would be more like the energy companies. Not celebrities that gave their life to music and who are pinpointed as decoys for people who really run the world. I’m tired of people pinpointing musicians as the Illuminati. That’s ridiculous. We don’t run anything; we’re celebrities. We’re the face of brands. We have to compromise what we say in lyrics so we don’t lose money on a contract. Madonna is in her 50s and gave everything she had to go up on an award show and get choked by her cape. She’s judged for who she adopts. Fuck all of this sensationalism. We gave you our lives. We gave you our hearts. We gave you our opinions!”

Obanikoro says Nigerians affected by xenophobic attacks will be compensated

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs II, Musiliu Obanikoro, says that citizens affected by the xenophobic attacks in South Africa will be compensated.

Since the attacks started last week, several Nigerians have lost their businesses and other belongings to fire set by locals on buildings where their businesses were housed.

Senator Obanikoro in an interview with Channels TV on Monday said that Nigerian High Commissioner, Martin Cobham and other delegations were taking stock of damages done to Nigerians to ensure that adequate compensation would be given to them.
“We have situations where some of our people lost their shops in this attack. We are taking stock of the damages done to them and we are going to be engaging the South African Government,” senator Obanikoro said.
He explained that different avenues are being explored to ensure there is an end to the attacks that have claimed several lives in KwaZulu-Natal province.
“One of the major stakeholders who incited the South African community has called for a meeting this morning where some representatives of the affected countries would be addressed.
“Some traditional rulers will be there to see how they can douse the situation and ensure the safety of Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa.
“This is a very shameful situation and it has attracted a lot of international outcry. I think the leaders have seen the need to ensure that the xenophobic attacks do not escalate.
“The attitude is now more promising and within the next few days we should be able to put this behind us. We are working on how best we can get a lasting solution to the problem,” he said.
