N8m Fraud: Sweet Sensation Female Worker Bags 266 Years Jail Term

It was a bitter lesson for a femal staff member of Sweet Sensation, Oluremi Olayinka as the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta, presided over by Justice A. A. Akinyemi, sentenced her to 266 years imprisonment for stealing her employer’s N8m.

The Head of Media and Publicity of the Economic and Financial Commission, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement on Wednesday that the court found Olayinka guilty on all the 34 counts preffered against her.

Her company alerted EFCC  after she made away with N8million handed to her by her employee.

Uwujaren said the presiding judge sentenced Olayinka to seven years on each of the 30 counts and an additional 14 years on four other counts.

According to him, the offences contravened ‘sections 390(6)(7)(8), 467 and 468 respectively of the Criminal Code, Cap 29, Law of Ogun State.’

He said the sentences would run concurrently which means that the convict would spent seven years in prison.

The EFCC spokesman said, Olayinka who was arraigned on May 13, 2014 in response to a petition on the allegations against her, was also ordered by the preciding judge to return the money.

She was said to have admitted stealing the money to the commission’s investigators, but later decided to plead not guilty to the charges against her when she was arraigned.

Uwujaren said that the commission presented four witnesses and 16 exhibits to prove the case against the lady.

Patience Jonathan Summons Emergency Summit so She Can Quit as African First Lady President

President Goodluck Jonathan’s loss in the March 28 presidential election has started taking its toll on his wife, Patience.
Arrangements had been concluded for her to quit her position as the President of the African Ladies Peace Mission, two months before the expiration of her tenure.
The mission comprises of wives of Presidents of all African countries.
She was elected the mission’s President at its seventh summit held in Abuja in July 2012 and her tenure would have expired in July 2015 when a new president would have been elected.

However, she will no longer be the First Lady of Nigeria from May 29 when President Jonathan will hand over power to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

Consequently, Mrs. Jonathan has reportedly summoned an emergency summit of the mission for May 15 for the purpose of electing her successor.

In some circles, it is believed that the move is to prevent the wife of the President-elect Hajiya Aisha Buhari the hosting rights of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) in July, when a new President of the non-governmental organisation would have been elected.

According to reports, Dame Jonathan is particularly interested in holding the summit to oversee the election of the new president of the mission, which comprises of wives of Presidents of all African countries.

She has reportedly sent out an invitation to members of the mission, dated April 6, to seek their presence at the emergency meeting to meet transition exigencies.

He allegedly directed them to ensure the foreigners left South Africa.

Xenophobia:South Africa closes Consulate in Lagos over fears of revenge attacks

South Africa has closed its consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, following anti-xenophobia protests there.
Protests were held outside the consulate and at the South African High Commission in Abuja.
South African consul general in Nigeria, Sam Monaisa, said in an e-mail to the South African business forum in that country that the closure would remain in force until Thursday.
The situation in Durban had calmed down, but he was concerned about the Nigerians that were being repatriated, he wrote.

This was why Nigerians maintained that their compatriots were being killed in South Africa daily, he said.

Revealed: Why Jonathan fired IGP, Suleiman Abba

Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba was yesterday, fired by President Jonathan and replaced with Solomon Arase. Reuben Abati released a statement but didn't state why he was fired.

Now, Vanguard is reporting that Mr Suleiman Abba, is the first major casualty of the just concluded general elections, which President Goodluck Jonathan and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lost to the opposition.
The police officer, who was elevated to the post only last year, incurred the wrath of the Presidency on the eve of the governorship and House of Assembly elections for allegedly arguing with the government officials over the directive to recall the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 6, Tunde Ogunshakin, from Rivers State.
Abba had deployed gunshakin from his base in Calabar to Port Harcourt to oversee the governorship election in Rivers State following complaints by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, that the police had collaborated with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the PDP to intimidate APC members and rig the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
His refusal to pick calls over Ogunshakin’s recall
A Presidency source told Vanguard that on learning that the IG had defied its order by redeploying Ogunshakin to Rivers State to supervise the governorship elections. A presidency official called the former police boss to recall the AIG with immediate effect from Rivers State or face the consequences.
The source said the presidency felt slighted when it could not get through to Abba.
Another sin of the former IG was his presence at the presentation of the Certificate of Return to Muhammadu Buhari at the International Conference Centre on April 1, 2015, which convinced the Presidency that the IG was actually working for the opposition and it moved quickly against him.

Xenophobia: 6,000 Nigerians will lose their jobs if we leave this country – MTN

Telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria has stated that if they are forced to shut down, over 6,000 Nigerians will be rendered jobless.

This was made known by the company’s Head of Communications, Mr Wale Goodluck.

He was reacting to protests by groups in Edo state and Abuja yesterday that the telecommunications offices in Nigeria will be shut and their installations attacked if the xenophobic attacks in South Africa continue.

According to him, there are only 12 expatriates working for the company in Nigeria compared to a workforce of 6,000 Nigerians.
“So if people go ahead with their threats to attack our facilities, what that means is that we may be forced to close down the business in Nigeria and about 6,000 Nigerians that make up 99% of our workforce will be unemployed.
“Then, when you look at our support chain, we have about 500,000 Nigerians gainfully employed. So, boycotting our services simply means destroying so many other Nigerian businesses and making over 500,000 other Nigerians to lose their jobs. This business supports a lot of businesses across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Many of the businesses that are affiliated to South Africa are in the retail space, supporting the growth of Nigeria and employing so many Nigerians. We see no revenge of Xenophobia and we commend the role the Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa has played; at least there has been no fatality on the part of any Nigerian,” he said.
