Transgender woman commits sucide after she was sent to mail prison

A transgender woman who told her friends she would kill herself if she was sent to a male prison has been found dead in jail.

Vicky Thompson, 21, was being held at Armley, Leeds, where she was pronounced dead on Friday.

Friends of Thompson, who was born male but had identified as female since her mid-teens, said she had asked to be sent to a female prison.

An investigation into her death has been launched, the Prison Service said.
Thompson, from Keighley, West Yorkshire, was handed a 12-month jail term in August which was suspended for 24 months.

The BBC understands she later breached the terms of the sentence, and was remanded in custody at Bradford Crown Court.

Her solicitor, Mohammed Hussain, said he had advised the judge she was "essentially a woman" and asked for her to be sent to New Hall women's prison, near Wakefield.

He said he also asked for any sentence to be reduced if it was decided Thompson would be sent to an all-male prison.

Mr Hussain described Thompson, who had not undergone gender reassignment surgery, as a vulnerable transgender person.

Alex Kaye, from SafeT, which represents transgender people, said he hoped Ms Thompson's death would bring about a change in the law.

"Any woman would not be happy to be in a male prison regardless of any gender identity history," he said.

Siasia offers mother’s kidnappers N200K out of the N150million demanded

The family of the Dream Team VI handler, Samson Siasia, has started negotiations with the kidnappers of the coach’s mother, Madam Ogere.

The family, according to the gaffer’s younger brother, Demie Siasia, could only afford to give the abductors N200,000.

Demie appealed to the kidnappers to release his mother as the N150 million ransom as demanded was way beyond what the family can afford.

He said: “They (kidnappers) have been calling me and I’m still expecting their call this night. I told them that coach is not around and has not been paid for months.

“I told them we can only afford N200,000 and they banged the phone on me and I have not heard from them since. We can only appeal to them to release the old woman to us.”

Demie, who is a trader based in Bayelsa State, was however angered by the attitude of the Nigeria Football Federation towards unraveling the mystery behind the kidnap of his mother.

He said: “As we speak, no call from either the NFF or the Presidency to find out about the development and our brother (Samson) is in Gambia on national duty. All they did was to put it in the newspapers that the kidnappers should release our mother. It is sad and highly regrettable.

“Sammy is not also happy with this treatment they are giving us. I think something should be done fast so that our mother can return safe and sound.”

Despite $5bn loss, Aliko Dangote remains No.1 as Forbes releases its Africa’s 50 richest list

Leading American business magazine Forbes has released its 2015 list of Africa’s 50 richest people. Retaining his spot as Africa’s richest man is business tycoon, Aliko Dangote.  The CEO of Dangote group became the richest man in 2010 after he surpassed Saudi-Ethiopian billionaire, Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi by over $2.6 billion. 

Also on the list are: oil tycoon Folorunsho Alakija who came in at no. 13 with $1.7 billion; Chairman of Forte oil, Femi Otedola, who ranked 16 with $1.6 billion and Tony Elumelu, who came in at no. 31 with $700 million.

According to the magazine, South African tycoons overtook Nigerians as a result of the country’s economic weakness, nevertheless Dangote maintained his position as no. 1 with a net worth of $16.7 billion.

Dangote, who has shown interest in buying football club, Arsenal, recently resigned from Dangote Flour Mills after his South African investors threatened to pull out.

Rihanna reportedly set to launch her weed line 'MaRihanna'

According to the website Celeb Stoner, Rihanna will launch her very own line of weed called MaRihanna. She reportedly made the announcement at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Negril, Jamaica, but there’s been no official confirmation from her camp as of yet.

Rihanna, who has used Instagram to extensively document her longtime love of weed, allegedly said, “MaRihanna by Rihanna is truly the first mainstream cannabis brand in the world and proud to be a pioneer. Marihanna is blazing a trail for the industry.”

Abductors of Siasia’s mother demand N150m ransom

The abductors of Samson Siasia’s mother, Ogere, have finally made contacts the Dream Team VI coach.

Siasia hinted that the kidnappers got in touch with him in the wee hours of Tuesday and were demanding for N150 million as ransom.

He said: “Yes, they want N150million. That’s crazy. Where would I get such huge amount of money from? I don’t have money. They should consider the state of her health and release her.”

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Command has launched a full scale investigation to track down the abductors and also bring them to book.

Madam Ogere, 72, was abducted on Sunday in Odoni village, Bayelsa State by three men on a motorbike.

She was the only one at home taking care of her husband, who is visually impaired, when she was abducted.

Khloé Kardashian Cancels Book Tour After Contracting Staph Infection While Helping Lamar Odom

Khloé Kardashian is putting her book tour on hold — again.

The reality star, who previously delayed the promotional tour for "Strong Looks Better Naked" to be with Lamar Odom at the hospital, will not be attending some of her book signings after falling ill.

Earlier on Wednesday, she tweeted, “Dolls! So sorry I needed 2 re schedule my book signing. I’m sick &dr’s orders are that I need to lay low until we narrow down what’s wrong.” That was followed up with another tweet that read, “Ill be going for more testing today. I’m very sorry again. Stress can run our bodies down so please everyone take care of yourselves.”

But it’s more than stress. 

According to TMZ, Kardashian has contracted a serious staph infection after spending time with Odom, 36, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The publication reports that she currently has an “incredibly painful” lesion on her leg and has developed “a high fever” and “swollen glands.”

“It’s so scary. She’s so sick,” a source says.

Kardashian has been a frequent visitor to Odom’s hospital ever since he wastaken in for treatment following an apparent overdose in Nevada.

15 people have been confirmed dead in the multiple suicide attack that rocked Kano GSM market yesterday evening. Two female suicide bombers walked into the populated market and detonated bombs strapped on them. The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Katsina, who confirmed the number of casualties, said 10 people died on the spot while 5 others died at the hospital. 57 others are said to be critically injured.

Popular South African pastor, Penuel Mnguni of the End Times Disciples Ministries (ETDM), tends to have met his waterloo on Sunday, November 15.

According to a report by Daily Sun SA, a mob of villagers, led by a South African youth vigilante group (the Economic Freedom Fighters) burnt Penuel’s church at Soshanguve in Tshwane on Sunday.

Sources say he had been in hiding recently, as community members denounced what he was doing, calling it an ‘abomination’.

Witnesses testify that church members were also beaten and tied up, before the police officers came to quell the storm.

A video uploaded on Youtube, showed the level of wreckage that was made at pastor Penuel’s church.

It would be recalled that about 2months ago, Penuel reportedly commanded the ‘spirit of snake’ into some of his congregants and then he sent them to Nigeria.

Five girls in the 9th grade in a school in Denmark carried out a really interesting experiment which attracted so much attention from people worldwide. The graphics that were put on the Internet induced a stormy reaction of many scientists, biologists and also experts on radiation from England, the Netherlands and also Sweden.

The experiment involved the youths monitoring seeds from similar plants which they planted in two spaces at the same temperature level, both facing the sunlight and watered with equal amounts of water. Facebook Activates Its Safety Feature Again After Yola Bombing

For the second time within 5dayss, Facebook activated its "Safety Check" feature in Nigeria after more than 30 people were killed and dozens wounded in a blast at a market in the northern city of Yola.

The feature is used for tracking people who have been close to disaster. 

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of the social network, made the announcement in a post on his account early Wednesday.

"We've activated Safety Check again after the bombing in Nigeria this evening," Zuckerberg said after Tuesday's attack.

Facebook's decision to implement the feature - which allows users to "check-in" and let family and friends know they're safe - comes after the network received a heavy backlash for activating it for the attacks in Paris on Friday - but not after bomb blasts hit the Lebanese capital, Beirut, a day earlier.

Critics accused the San Francisco-based website of valuing the lives of Western victims more than those in other regions - a charge denied by Facebook.

"After the Paris attacks last week, we made the decision to use Safety Check for more tragic events like this going forward. We're now working quickly to develop criteria for the new policy and determine when and how this service can be most useful," Zuckerberg said.

Social media users were quick to demand Facebook activate the feature following the bombing in Nigeria.
