The death of a patient with Ebola-like symptoms, at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, has created panic among residents of the city.
The patient, who was vomiting, stooling and bleeding from nose, was brought in from Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State with high body temperature.
The unidentified patient would eventually die after samples had been taken from him for investigation.
The Federal Ministry of Health however, says that the patient may have possibly died from Haemorrhagic fever, not necessarily Ebola.
Director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi, stated that a medical team had been dispatched to Calabar to determine what killed the patient.
The government is also waiting for the result of the laboratory investigation, Nasidi added.
The accident and emergency ward of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital has been been quarantined pending the time investigations are carried out by the medical team.
